Too Late In The Game To Upgrade?

Thought I'd post it in here as I was considering several components.

Basically I've been looking at getting the Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6, several reason I want this, for bit of Crossfire with two 4850's and the dual LAN, along with good placement of the PCI-E x1 slot.

But is there any point in me looking at these options for an older 775 slot CPU. It's a E8400 clocked at 3.5.

The board is going to cost around £100 and another 4850 ~ £60.

Where as moving to i7 is going to cost more like £450+.
 
what 4850 is it? half gig or full? if its half your best bet is prob just to buy a new card, 4890 for example, if its full then yeah Id say youre best getting the X48 and another for xfire, i7 wouldnt be worth it, high cost for small gain
 
Give me a shout if you're going ahead with this and I'll put up mine in the MM, been meaning to get a permanent P45 replacement for it since my last two attempts at an upgrade haven't lived up to my expectations.

EDIT: Ah crap, just realised you wanted the X48, mine is the X38.
