Too lazy to Google?

I think the real question is... why don't they use Bing?

It is always easier to ask someone something. I know this from work, stuff that can be easily Googled and found out but instead my junior colleagues will just ask me. I tell them, when I was in your position, I didn't have anyone to ask - I had to find it out for myself.

this annoys me too.

My other favourite is some threads temporarily change discussion and some people get all antsy about it. Hang him!

Conversations change back and forth in person. It is how conversations work.

Like we're having now? Funny isn't it. An internet tool that is making so many people antisocial and lack of people skills.

Exactly. I'd rather ask a forum or message a group of pals about a question I have rather than Google the answer. Google will likely give a 100 different answers anyway, all wrong.

My pet hate is people using acronyms. The 3 seconds that one person saved has now wasted 30 seconds for X number of people as they search Google. Stinks of inefficiency - take the 3 second hit for the sake of overall improved efficiency of the community!

I agree I hate random TLA thrown into sentences.
Hope you're not planning to join the RAF, SAS, SBS, RGJ or anything of a military nature, then...!!

It's taken as given that WTF all the TLAs are is common knowledge, TBH. IMO, if you don't know what they mean, you're behind the times and need to brush up on your internet parlance. If you're here and talking about WCing yoru OC'd GPU, it's expected you'd know the TLAs already.... and do you really have to use numerals instead of typing the full number? It only takes a couple of seconds to type 'three' instead of 3... :p

My favourite pet hate is people too lazy to look up acronyms in replies they don't immediately recognise.

Maybe people shouldn't be lazy and post uncommon acronyms in the first place? Personally enjoy being able to read posts here without have a 3 page crib sheet for all the acronyms - this is OcUK not Mumsnet

People speak in them all the time in real life anyway - They're only "uncommon" if you've never heard them before, or don't twig the context in which they're used.
If it's really that bad for you, start a poll. If enough people agree with you, petition OCUK to add in a feature many other forums already have, wherein acronyms can be hovered over with the mouse to bring up a translation.

If everyone Googled then there would be no interesting conversations or discussions.
or - there might be be more bandwidth spent on interesting conversation ?, if people both knew how to use google effectively, and also acknowledged/referenced
when they had plagiarized google material in replies.

The availibility of a trust/un-trust/posting-score button ? might help sort the wood from the trees.

You just want to stone them don't you? Bandwidth. Please.
