A question that has been asked time and time again....

I have 400gb worth of music but one of the reasons i have so many is due to duplicates... Im looking for software that can erase all the duplicaets but without leaving any albums without tracks that were added to the deletion...
eg i have tracks that turn up in more than one album therefore they are legitimate duplicates.. I assume the software would have to search the database by album to be effective.... ~Does anyone have ideas on this problem and the solution?? I have itunes 8 and mediamonkey but neither seem to be able to address this??

Sorry I don't know of any software that your after, just wanted to say wow 400gb of music, how many tracks is that??
I thought I had a fair bit at about 40gb.

Well you beat my feeble 145GB collection :p

Also don't know of any software that would allows duplicates on different albums.

Makes my 56Gb, 10,840 tracks, 31days 9hours or Music look feeble...

The only duplicates I have are from Artist albums and compilations (Best of, Ministry of Sound etc...)

I know its a ridiculous ammount>> I had a company copy my entire cd collection a few years back and i also exchange tracks from groups of people at work all with large collections... Between about 4 of us the grand total makes for a lot... Its like me sharing my entire library with someone else with different tastes and then combining>>>

just wish it could all be organised, ill check out duplicate finder but ill have to be careful as some software ie (fixtunes )are known to be unreliable at the best of times..

You can do it with MediaMonkey almost certainly, check the MediaMonkey scripts forum for a decent script i seem to remember something like advanced duplicate finder was totally customisable. Just search around there for what you need, 9 times out o 10 someone has made a script do something obscure you need. Which is why time and time again MediaMoneky beats any other media player hands down :)

You're admitting to having illegal copies of music and distributing them as well.

Are all of the MP3's tagged properly? Could you just use a tool to put them in a good file structure

Artist/Album/Track Number - Track Name.mp3

Then anything that is in the root folder isn't part of an album and can be removed.

If you wanted to do that, use MusicBrainz (with the album art and disc number plugin).
