Too Many Options

I finally have the cash to build a new system, but there are too many options, I want a system for a lot of graphic and video work and not for gaming.
I've always had AMD but I'm told Intel would be better for me but their options are twice as big, this it the sort of system i was looking at so far originally.

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590 4.70GHz
990FX motherboard
Noctua cooling
32GB Ram
Radeon Fury X
Samsung 500GB 850 EVO
Fully Modular Power Supply
Lian Li PC-D8000 case

I am willing to change to Intel but there's too many options.
advice please.

X99 platform with 5820K if it can be afforded (that Lian Li case is really expensive so if needed you could easily shave off enough there with a different case to afford X99).

2800-3000MHz DDR4 RAM (can go with 2400 if needed as here the benefits aren't that great).

PSU: SuperFlower Leadex Gold/Plat - EVGA G2/GS/P2 - Seasonic X/P.

SSD: PCI-E or M.2 if possible.

Would your work benefit from a scratch disk?

I'd go Intel/nvidia. Not sure how much the fury x is but that seems overkill if you're not gaming. Maybe a 960.

5820k for cpu.

I'd just filter the x99 boards cheapest first then make sure what you want has the features you want/need.

Ram just pick the fastest/lowest latency that fits your budget.

Are you using adobe software?

Scratch disc?

The second link assumes an external disk but it can be an internal one.

I understand what your saying about x99 5820k but which one?

Any X99 motherboard that has the features you need. It's difficult to spec without knowing the budget. The setup is also available in three bundles that can save a bit of money:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus X99-S - Intel Core i7 5820K Six Core CPU & Motherboard Bundle ***£30 Saving*** £488.98
1 x Gigabyte X99M Gaming 5 - Intel Core i7 5820K Six Core CPU & Motherboard Bundle ***£30 Saving*** £413.98
1 x Gigabyte X99-SLI - Intel Core i7 5820K Six Core CPU & Motherboard Bundle ***£50 Saving*** £393.98
Total : £1,306.54 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

As for Nvidia (better for CUDA) v AMD (better for OpenCL) graphics, maybe this will help: http://create.pro/blog/open-cl-vs-c...upport-gpgpugpu-acceleration-real-world-face/

Just have to find out which one's best for your apps.

Yes Mcgraw, auto cad, Photoshop, and other video editing tools.
Scratch disk, i see, never looked in to that.
I looking at the following

Intel 5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor
as there is a big price jump to the next chip

MSI X99A MPower Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
for the M.2 Slot, USB3.1, USB3.0,

Samsung 850 EVO Series M.2 500GB
or just a Samsung 850 EVO sata

Noctua CPU Cooler

32 GB DDR4
no idea what one or speed

GeForce GTX 980Ti
or is that overkill

PSU to suit

My budget is around £1200 but I could push it up.

980ti is overkill imo but you can research cuda effects on the software you use.

Get a big mechanical drive to store your data on and another the same size to back up on.

A second scratch drive is definitely a plus as you won't run out of scratch space as the os drive fills up.
