Hey!, first off, i hope this is in the right place :p

This being the first build i've done, I really dont know what to set things to in the bios for RAM and CPU voltages etc. the Manual has guided me through the rest.

At first i though that AUTO would be fine, but it appears not so. If i use HWMonitor, 1.3V is the indicated max volts which it has seen go to the CPU. ive been reading around, and this seems too high. im not overclocking properly, all i have done is set the turbo ratio to 40 and left it at that.

It also seems to be right to set RAM voltage to 1.5v for sandy bridge?

Please give some pointers, cheers! :D
Spec in Signature. note, the CPU is the NON 'K' version.

You could always set your RAM to the XMP profile on the board which will take care of the
RAM for you and sort it all out.

Are you trying to Overclock the CPU? If not then it should have all been set right when
by the BIOS in the 1st place?

Yeah, i set the XMP for the ram, so is 1.65v OK?

WRT overclocking, i just upped the turbo ratio by 2 notches up to 40, I've read somewhere that these CPU could do this on standard volts, so i thought i might as well do it.
everything is on auto apart from setting the XMP and me changing the multiplier, but its the cpu voltage I'm mainly sceptical about

thankyou!
so if i set the XMP profile, then manually change the RAM volts to 1.5750, then leave everything on auto, will i be good to leave it for ever?

I wouldn't mind knowing this as well because I have not changed the voltage on
my RAM either just left it on the XMP profile?

Im gonna change it and see what happens lol.

YEAH, i just changed mine down to 1.5750v and did a quick MW3 game, and all seems fine :)

I just had a look and cant see where i change the voltage of the memory
I can find the timings and stuff but cant find the voltage?

Forget the post above I found it lol, helps if you scroll down lol. long day at work.

I set mine to 1.57500 gonne give BF3 a try and make sure its ok.

CPU-Z is reporting the memory at 800Mhz still so its running at the proper speed.

I am the same as you guys - my XMP profile is 1.65V but I set it manually to 1.575V and tested and decreased from there. As long as it's stable then it's fine.

Regarding your CPU vcore - 1.3V is fine. It's a little high for a 4ghz overclock but you can change it if you want to. Anything up to 1.4V is fine for vcore and even beyond that people have a 24/7 set-up although I wouldn't personally recommend this.

As a rule of thumb - start from your auto voltage setting and then decrease and test for stability in increments until it becomes unstable and then revert to the lowest stable voltage. Having low voltages will help with your temperatures but if you're not too bothered then leave it on auto and just make sure you're under 1.4V.

It's relatively simple to tweak and change things though of you're interested and have the time :)

p.s 1.35V is about par for a 4.5ghz overclock with auto voltages so as you can see there is plenty of room to move either side.

Im not trying to overclock particularly (even though what i have done is overclocking i know :p )
Also, the offset thing confuses me, so i am unable to even begin to adjust the voltages :( how is this mastered?

on another note, have you guys any ideas on how far an non 'K' 2600 will go on the turbo multiplier?

Woops sorry - was on my iphone at the time and didn't realise you had a non K version! D'oh
hehe, i knew someone would miss it!

ok, so im leaving the ram on 1.5750, its stable, and as long as its safe, all is good.

BUT, how does the offset thing work, i don't wnat to touch it until i know how it works fully. Burning the CPU is the last thing i want to be doing :p
