I put some AS5 on my E6600 but I think I may have done the vertical line too thick?

My idle temps are 45 - 47 according to core temp and thats with a Thermalright 120 Extreme?

I may take it off and reapply as the AS site states a VERY thin vertical line!

Would this make my chip run hot?

Yes, too much thermal compound spread too thickly will cause more insulation than a very thin layer, and wont transfer as much heat to the heatsink.

Hmm I think my line down the centre was 2mm - 2mm so that may be the issue!

Also can anyone say which is the best fan (below) for my Thermalright Ultra 120 please?

Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin

OR

Zalman ZM-F3 120mm Silent Case Fan - 3 Pin

Thoughts would be great!
