Hi,

Continuing on from my extended warranty thread...

I'm looking to spend about £400 on a new laptop but as I know so little about them and there is such a vast range I'm stuck for decisions.

The machine will generally be used by the wife and kids for mainly web (including flash based games), maybe word processing and MIDI music and maybe some art work (looking to also buy a cheap graphics tablet),

Ideally the machine should have a large screen (15.4) as we've tried the NC10 but Mrs though it too small. I would prefer a Core 2 Duo for a bit of oomf is possible.

Anyone willing to make any recommendation please?

And we get back to Dell!

I had a search for asus laptops and there are only a few of there range that come with a 2 year warranty. I could have swarn it used to be a standard 2 year thing with asus laptops. Maybe i was wrong.

I owned a vostro and it served me well untill someone nicked it.

People are muttering good words about the Studio range also, not sure if they fall into your price bracket tho.

I've got back to looking at the Dell 1525. If I'm correct it's cheaper to buy from the High Street purple store than it is from the Dell Store.

It depends on the spec as to if it will be cheaper, I usually bargain really hard with dell towards the end of the month and you can get lucky. Talk to at least 2 of them at different times of the day if you can and compare the deals they are willing to offer.
