Too much highlight in FPSs

Hi guys, this is quite a small problem really but if anyone has any suggestions they would be appreciated.

I just got a new card (6870), although i think I had this problem on my old card, i just played less FPSs as the card was not as capable.

The problem is highlights from sun, fire, electric light, etc on dark objects is far too pronounced.

For example, a person standing in a dark room next to a fire would have a yellow outline, rather than a gentle orange glow around the edges.

I have noticed this on Modern Warfare 1&2, Half Life 2 and Homefront.

I am using the latest drivers (I think anyway, i downloaded them though steam).

Is there a simple setting that will fix this, or is it perhaps that i am playing mainy older games?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like contrast. Reset your monitor and CCC colour settings. Unless we are talking Battlefield 3, which has fubar contrast by design

Thanks guys.

Yep I took a couple of screen shots last night, I'll post them when i get home.

I have never changed the CCC settings, but i'll try that as weel when i get home.
