Howdy,

I seem to be making a lot of threads lately. Sorry :D

Looking for a tool box which could pretty much hold everything - as using the big Sainsburys bag things is getting old now. Could it even maybe hold the trolley jack and stands (wishful thinking?)

Thanks :)

Just buy an unbreakable crate from one of the big DIY stores if you have tools in their own boxes, and put them in that, usually have a lid too.

I have a plastic crate/box in my boot with some tools in that I could do basic things with if I needed to and it comes out and goes in the shed easily enough.

Or buy a proper standing wheeled toolbox, Halfords pro, Teng, Snap on etc.

Problem with 'proper' tool boxes/chests is that you really, REALLY get what you pay for in terms of quality. I'm telling you as someone who could never, ever justify the £2k odd +VAT they want for a big box that Snap on is noticeably better than other makes. If you want a 'proper' tool box for the garage I'd seriously consider going for a second hand snap on chest. The going rates for a 'single' wide unit top and bottom box is about £500-£600 and a 'double' £900-£1k given the few second hand ones I've sold. Might seem like loads of money, but the thing is that you'll either A) Keep it for the rest of your life and probably pass it down to your kids or B) Almost certainly get your money back when it comes to selling it.

That being said I can never bring myself to keep one even if I get one cheap. My £50 halfords one (as seen here: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_743669_langId_-1_categoryId_165667) does the same job, albeit it with it feeling like it's going to fall apart any moment. The truth is that if you organize all of your sockets away on rails it's not too difficult to just have all of your tools stored in a big plastic carrycase. I got a stanley one from costco for £15 and it is more than upto the job :).

I bought a Snap on top box for £50 15 years ago it was 10 years old then and is still going strong, as long as you don't want any other colour or specific size and your willing to compromise then something like this should do you.

I agree theres no better than a Snap-On roller bearing box (owning one myself) but they are stupid money.

If I was to go again I would get one of those massive stainless steel things that COSTCO \ Ebay were doing or one of the Clarke HD boxes Machine Mart sells. Thats assuming your willing to spend ~ £350.

cant fault the halfords cabinets tbh and i've got a few :)

basic ones are fine tbh unless your giving them heavy use in which case get the professional range, on special offer the now as well iirc free top box when you buy the bottom cab

my collection :)
