Tool of the modder!?

Ok, well the modding project that I'm considering starting originated at a simple re-spray and sand etc....

However the more I think about it the more I'd like to try something slightly different... to which end I started to think I'd maybe like to do small amounts of metal cutting really.

The basic tool from what I can see is a Dremel!

Already have screwdrivers/ratchet/socket set etc...

Now I've just got a couple of questions!

Being on a budget is it possible to just get one of the lower end Dremel's? Something like the 200/300 series, and still get reasonable performance?

Is it worth picking one of these up from the bay for slightly less? Or should I look into buying one new....

Final and perhaps most stupid question, is can I use drill bits in it? Or am I going to have to pick up a drill as well? Next question I guess, if I do need a drill, is does anyone have any idea of a cheap drill that does everything it needs? OR could I really get away with going really cheap and getting a hand drill? Or are these really as bad at drilling through stuff as everyone says...

Hi the bigest drill bit for the Dremel is 1/8 or 3mm.
I would not advise buying second hand power tools, as you do not know the history of them and how much abuse they have had. You can pick a new 4000 up for around the £90 mark if you shop around.
Yes you will need a drill as well if your going to be cutting bigger holes than 3mm. You can get some good deals on Bosch corded and cordless drills at the moment.

But yeah I figure I'll need more than that in future. Thanks for the advice on the second hand tools, will stay away!

Think I might look into a Dremel 300-30 as I can get them for quite a bit less!

i have both dremels and cheaper copys including a 20 quid halfolds copy i bought to do a job once away from home.

while the dremels are better they all work very well and i use which ever is at hand now.

Yeah, I did see there are cheap alternative copies, looking at Stulid's links it was clear that the cheap alternative works fine. Saying that it's about £30, and I can pick up the Dremel 300-30 for about £40, so all in all I reckon it works out worth the extra £10 for the slightly easier compatibility in future

Hopefully this will actually get off the ground, it all depends on a trip I'm making on Monday well, might well do. But yeah
