Hey guys

im pretty new to the world of buying vinyl but i think ive been ripped off.

i bought a Tool album from a very well known online marketplace and when it turned up it was sealed in the sleeve with the correct cover, and correct stickers on the centres of the record.

the album 'opiate'' only has 6 tracks, and i can see 6 tracks ( 3 on each side ) on the record.

however... when i play it, it is a completly different album! all iof the tracks are from tools other album called ''undertow'' ( which is meant to have 10 tracks not 6 )
i jsut didnt have time to listen to all of the tracks to verify as it was quite late.

so what is going on here then ! im stumped, and as this is probobly the 3rd piece of vinyl ive ever bought for my self, im completly confused!

is this... a copy ? do copies exist?

cheers,
Rick

Interesting. I'm not sure why anyone would counterfeit vinyl as it's probably prohibitively fiddly to do. Maybe check an official discography to see what tracks should be pressed on there.

Could it be a promo for Undertow or something? Very stange. Also, tool tend to have interludes between tunes, which may mean there's no gap between 2 songs when this happens. I'm sure they'll be some tool anoraks who know exactly what you've got. :D

Tool ofter have tracks on their albums which are not really songs, but undertow is different.
in all honesty i havnt listened to the whole record, i just didn't have time since it was so late when i got home. i have identified 2 songs from side A as being from untertow, and one from side B as being from undertow

To be honest, i might hang onto this one because i prefer untertow to opiate!

ill check it out when i get home and find out the exact track listing and what is missing etc :)

opiate is only 6 songs, has some live tracks too if i remember right?

turning my server on to check for you :)

The hidden track is wierd but good if I remember... It's been ages since I've listened to it. :)

He had a friend once who took some Ecstasy.... lol.

Weakest song on the album, i believe the live songs were done on a new years eve, man that would have been mega.

great stuff

i know opiate only has 6 tracks, and so does this record... i have listened to side A, and im about to listen to side B . . watch for an edit

Well according to all the stuff I've seen the vinyl is the same track list as the CD, so if yours is different, you may have been done. Or have a very rare piece of vinyl if it is an original :)

ive listened to it all and it is indeed only the first 6 songs of 'undertow'

heres the pics of the acctual thing

should be able to see the tracks form those pics.

every reference i have seen undertow on vinyl has been all 10 songs on one disc :?

im confused and dont have a clue what this thing is... sounds great though !!

Undertow on vynil is definately one disc as i have it . It may have just been a promo that got put into the wrong sleeve and has never been listened to so nobody has noticed.

Get in touch wth the seller and see what they say.

I had something similar with a Beatles anthology 2 disk CD set I bought years ago. One of the disks wasn't the Beatles, it was some other musician (dreary I thought). I just dismissed it and never really bothered to take it back.

Years later, I popped the suspicious disk in my pc, and itunes identified it as a Nick Drake cd, but printed with the Beatles anthology sticker.

Odd, but I guess if it can happen in a high tech cd pressing plant, it can happen with vinyl :)
