I'm trying to find a tool that will hold a cylinder from the inside that I can attach to my drill.

The cylinder/tube is only 5'' long but 3'' OD and I need to sand it down in dia but evenly.

Any ideas?

dont expect to find them cheap though tbh.

could you not just get a 4 jaw chuck on a lathe and use that to hold it from the inside?

Whats the ID.

My advice would be to make a small jig.

10mm threaded bar will fit into the drill. If it will also go into the ID of the tube then all you need to do is make a spacer With a 10mm hole and either a lip or taper to the true ID of the tube and use bolts to hold the tapers to the tube.

It's called a spool clamp. And if all you are doing is polishing then you should be fine. You may want to make a support for the free end.

What tooling do you have available, only a drill?

On a lathe you'd probably hold it internally one end in a three jaw, its only short, 10 minute job. Attaching it to a little drill is going to be challenging, two discs and a bit of studding/nuts?!

/edit The spool clamp thing looks good above if you can buy it, if you have to make the spools you'd have a lathe and will have just done it the easy way.
