What do you guys think?

I'm a bit surprised Costa is above Ibra but I'd also put Fabregas above Silva.

These lists are always laughably awful. Iniesta, the man who plays a purely offensive role in one of the most prolific teams ever... outscored by John Terry in his career.

Seriously by what measure is a 2014 year a good year if Iniesta has no goals and no assists this season(league anyway) and had a pretty poor last season and god awful world cup? What stands him out as top 30 when he's had a bad year?

Ribery, didn't play a huge amount last year and wasn't stand out when he did, played while Bayern were getting utterly thrashed in the champs league, didn't play in the world cup and has been average this season?

Silva... 7-1..... plays for PSG who have a bazillion more than anyone else and part of a team not doing particularly well this year considering the wealth gap with PSG dropping loads of points already. That is a few massively over rated players way way higher in the list than they should be.

Muller had a better 2014 than Messi, best player in the world cup, Messi in another popularity contest got called the best player in the world cup when he wasn't in the top 20 spending 80% of every game doing nothing.

Suarez as well, of his 31 goals last season only 12 came in 2014, the single biggest embarrassment of a player in the world cup, huge ban, missed a huge portion of this season and took two months to find a league goal once he finally started playing. I wouldn't call it a top 10 players in the world season myself. Won nothing, did nothing, disgraceful behaviour.

These lists are a combination of who is the most popular as well as who had a good 2014, with popularity being treated far far more importantly.

Falcao, started 12 games and subbed into another 9 in the entirety of 2014(I'm rather surprised he's played 9 times for Utd tbh).

number 63 despite having barely played in 2014. Excluding a couple of international friendlies it's 9 starts, 9 sub appearances, 4 league goals(two each league) 2 assists, 2 cup goals(looks like lower league opposition in france). Those aren't terrible numbers but to be in the top 100 players in 2014, while barely playing at all and not exactly looking even good for Utd yet... it's ridiculous.

Thiago Silva didn't even play in the match Brazil lost to Germany. His absence could actually explain a lot there.

As for Suarez, he might have done some stupid things but you can't knock his footballing ability. He helped Liverpool get to second place and their league position now shows he important he was. He might not have won anything but unlike other teams that have won cups, Liverpool only had him as a true world class player where other teams have more.

Sure, the list doesn't always make sense but some of your arguments are ridiculous.

Why is it when people want to rate a players year or season they ONLY consider the good things. Again I'll point out that Suarez only scored 1/3 of his goals in the 2014 part of the season for Liverpool. He had a great 2013, and an OKAY 2014 for Liverpool, but he also failed to score against big teams repeatedly and it wasn't for lack of chances. He was ineffective against the big sides often when his team was dominating and had he scored less against Cardiff, Norwich and others and more against Chelsea and City they'd have won the title. But again Suarez did pretty much the worst thing of the season as well. You're not factoring that in at all. He had a decent time with Liverpool but the most ridiculous attack and second worst ban of the year(Brandao managed to almost make Suarez look normal by comparison) work against each other. He's had a poor time since the end of last season.

When jotting up things that make Suarez great or not, he has more negatives than positives. He was not the 6th best player in the world in 2014, he wasn't top 30. A player who would rank 2nd for most ridiculous assault on a pitch(okay in leagues people watch, there have been other insane assaults also in lower leagues, non league and youth football). So lets say second for most ridiculous assault/worst ban in the top leagues of the year isn't going to be 6th on the best player of all year unless he outscored everyone else by 30 goals and won everything to counter balance the negative parts of his season.

But you can't just look at stats, you have to look at the player's ability and work rate which he clearly has. And I'm pretty sure the Liverpool team changed to favour Sturridge being the main goalscorer in the second half of the season which meant that Suarez couldn't score as many (he still scored his fair share). I remember having this discussion with a Liverpool fan who saw that as an opportunity to change his captain for his FF team.

most pro players have ability so to speak. stats imo tell most of the story instead of peoples opinons and popularity of players.

Stats tell part of the story but only people that have no idea about football judge players based purely on stats. Iniesta, for example, is one of the best attacking midfielders of his generation and the amount of personal awards backs that up but what can you do when ***** **** and judge him purely on stats? Only people that are stupid do that :)
