Hi can anyone share their view's & opinions on what are the top compact digital camera's available at the moment that offer exceptional performance,
thx.

Canon G9 and the Panasonic TZ5 are my top 2 depending what you want.....the tz5 has a better range, is smaller and lighter and not as complex, but the G9 has more manual over rides and a better sensor.....

If it's for normal family pictures and landscape stuff, get the tz5. If you want a camera to do PROPER photography with get the G9

If i was to buy a compact id probably buy either a Samsung NV20, a Lieca D-Lux 4 or an M8.2

Id get one of those solely for the fact that they look sexy... Id only want a compact for when a DSLR is not practical.

Panasonic LX-3, (same hardware as the lieca digilux 4); canon G9 or G10; sigma dp1. Ricoh GRd or GX200

All these seem to be excellent quality glass in the lenses, though the Ricoh does have issues with noise at Higher ISO (above about 200). I have an LX-1 early model of the LX-3 and it's really very good. The DP-1 uses an AP-C sized sensor , and the higher ISO noise is probably the best available in a compact camera.

More than 3 I know, and If i had to put my own cash down on one It would likely be the LX-3, or the GRd or DP1.

Panasonic LX-3 would be next on my shopping list, ive got a TZ5 at the moment but lack on manual controls is annoying.
The G camera are very good, I had a G5 a while ago and wouldn't mind the new G10 but you would struggle to call it compact.
