Top 5 Best CPU's

Thing is, he'll have a vastly better budget to play with and access to more resources than what he likely had at AMD

Regardless, i still wouldnt trust anything Raja does... Vega has "Features" that even now have not seen the light of day.. i think these only exist inside his head... im guessing Intels first GPU will be called "Lurpak" for that "buddery smooth" gameplay, right Raja? ;)

I don't know why the i5 8400 doesn't get a mention.
For its price point it's really good. The 2600 lacks an IGP so an i5 8400 has a lower buy in price (Given not everyone games, so only need an IGP)

I was going to buy a 8400 as it seemed to match everything i wanted. But intel seems to be just so jumbled up right now with its security issues, odd cpu iterations and delay with cannon lake. Just put me off and the 2600 looks like a real nice alternative that gives you more future proofing. I'd still like to see what Cannon Lake will do before I buy later this year but its been delayed to 'whenever they want' 2019, which is too late for me. :(

As many mention, if you game at 1080p 120+hz, then an 8400 is better than pretty much anything AMD.

Yeah Vega was Raja's brain child so i'm not holding out on much hope for Intel's GPU's.

To be fair he didn't have a lot to play with. Vega at the end of the day is just Polaris with HBCC and HBM i.e. there was no major overhaul of the fundamental design from prior chips. I'm interested to see what Navi brings us but I hope it's a bit more then just multiple chiplets connected via infinity fabric or an EMIB, if not AMD must be very confident in keeping with GNC approach which is remarkable given the competition is whole product stack ahead of them in terms of design and efficiency.

Nothing is making me want to move on from my 5820k @ 4.6ghz yet. I'd get better minimums with an 8700k but not worth the hassle and cost moving to a new platform.

It's the same for me and I'm on a 3570k @4.5Ggz :D
Maybe future games like Metro Exodus, Watch Dogs 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 will finally push those nicely OC'ed 4 core CPU's into a corner!

AMD will probably have their upcoming 7nm CPU's close or ready by then.
Add PCI-E 4/5 motherboards and lower DDR4 ram prices and I think we got ourselves the perfect storm in 2019 :)

Maybe us 4 core users should start preparing for the coming storm!
Anyone got some spare wooden planks and nails? :p

Agreed I think if the industry can get pricing under control there could be a lot of upgrading next year. I'm hoping for something AMD on 7nm.

I could have got an 8700k - went with the 7820X instead. Pretty sure at 4.5 Ghz it isn't bottle necking my 1080Ti.... Shame the 2700X gives the same performance for half the price.

Just sold an R5 and bought an 8600K because I'm sick of having my 1080ti bottlenecked by a poor gaming cpu. Pretty sure I'm in the real world.

You own a 1080ti. You are not the average gamer. You are in the top 2% of gamers. As per steam survey

8700k stock versus an over clocked ryzen 2*** cards is basically identical performance, for a little bit cheaper when buying the Ryzen.

1080P high refresh rate though the 8700K is still the way to go especially if you can get 5GHz stable, Quite the performance leap.

True, but you can't get 5Ghz on the stock cooler provided so that's another 30 or 40 quid for another cooler so you're then heading north of 50-60 quid more than the Ryzen. some people have a budget that they need to stick to.

high refresh monitor lol not even close. 8400 mainly spanks the top amds nevermind the 8700k even at stock ocd.takes the mickey out of the amd cpus.i dont get why people keep sayin they close . upto 30 in front in many big titles.that isnt close.
