Top Case fan

what the opinion of putting a fan in the top of the case, logic dictates this is a good idea since heat rises, what do you think, the new antec case apparently has a top 200mm case fan

also what would you use to cut out the hole in an alloy case

Personally I think it helps little but can spoil the look of a case a lot. Had a top fan on a previous Lian Li case and found it did'nt really improve any temps and proved to be a perfect gateway for dust to fall into case.

really?

it does help the temp in my case btw :p

I think it depends on how good the stock cooling one the case is. You will obviously notice a better temps if the original cooling was poor whereas it will not be so apparent if the stock cooling is good.

Its case cooling, not really component cooling, theres no point having a great CPU cooler if its using warm air to blow over the HS cos the case has poor cooling.

An Akasa amber but i doubt the choice of fan was important, The case (Jeantech Phong) didnt have great airflow and was fitted with heavily OCed components (XPM/9800 pro).

iv added a 12cm fan and a 8cm fan onto the top of my thermaltake armour (removed the plastic bits built for the 9.2cm fan) (and removed the HDD cage bits) and now my temps have dropped about 4c so i think they improved for me, :)

(allso yes iv edited the case a bit so that around the fans were the fans arent drawing air up, iv put some plastic perspects on the inside of the case around the fans so dust cant fall in)

I had the top fan on my Armour, but removed it this morning to see if it reduced noise, it did but also nothing has changed temp wise well its lower temps but thats because my room is cold atm lol :p

mine isnt the normal 9.2 cm fan on top of my armour tho, its a 12cm fan thats iv added (case modded) and allso all my fans are silent and have sound vibration reduceing pad's around them, my pc is silent :)
