Top Gsync / FreeSync choices?

Disregard money as I dont have a set budget.

All I'm looking for is the following: 27", 1440p, 144hz, 1ms response time and either FreeSync/Gysnc.

What monitors from both camps whether cheap or expensive are peoples recommendations?

Then finally are there any monitors that don't fit in to the above category that should be contenders? (ROG Swift PG258Q I'm looking at you.)

I understand that Nvidia don't have many HDR monitors out in the market? Is it worth deferring a monitor purchase?

G-Sync wise only one choice really unless you absolutely can't stand TN the Dell S2716DG anything else is inferior.

(It also has a whole 1.5ms! average lower latency button to pixel delay than the nearest freesync equivalent)

This, if it turns out to be as good as the specs. And it's supposed to be super smooth while gaming without using Freesync or Gsync. So you can use a Nvidia card and still get a good experience. If you are using it for work though, it might not be so good as the Quantum Dot Technology means half height Pixels which some say causes blurry text.

I am waiting for reviews myself, because I am considering the 40 inch version.

PG279Q.
No point buying a non-IPS, as you said no set budget.

Depends how into faster paced games you are. I'd also struggle to recommend either PG278 or 9 after my experiences.

This was one on my short list. I have a dell at the moment and the base of the monitor is small enough.

This is another possibility. Turned off tho by the leg stand. Very large and take up a lot of space.

Buy a monitor arm mount. It's some of the best money you can spend for your desk. It stops all the worry about the monitor stand.

Definitely if you are looking for a blend of image quality and performance nothing in the G-Sync range comes close - for pure gaming performance there is basically the one real choice G-Sync wise in the 27" 2560x1440@144Hz bracket - the rest IMO I wouldn't even touch except 1-2 models if I was budget constrained.

This is the sweet spot right? 27", 1440p, 144hz, 1ms (And FreeSync or Gsync)

I'm not too fused by HDR. I'm not a hardcore gamer. Just casual looking for an upgrade from an old 9 year old 60hz panel.

So the Dell S2716DG is the Gysnc monitor I'd go for but Freesync? (Other than the C27HG70 27")

And the 1ms respones time of a TN vs the 4ms response time of an IPS?

If you are not a hardcore gamer then there are 1-2 non TN G-Sync panels that might be worth a look - I really couldn't recommend the PG279Q personally though every person I know that has bought one IRL has returned it due to various issues including fuzzy text and weird random lines on the screen - assuming its built like the PG278Q which is practically slapped together with a bit of tape internally it doesn't surprise me.

They are meaningless figures. Read the reviews and see which has the best pixel response and input lag.

If you aren't a hardcore gamer, you won't notice a difference anyway.

So a

Dell S2716DG (27", 144hz, 2560x1440) & a 1080

vs

Acer Predator XB281HK (28", 60hz, 4k) & a 1080ti

What you reckon?

I kind of set my heart on the Dell and 1080 as I started off just wanted a high refresh rate monitor.

The price difference between the two all in all is about £200.

I think that 4k gaming even with a 1080ti isn't here yet. I.e You wont be playing the next gen titles over the next 2 years at 4k with a 1080ti for very long.

Then again having 4k display already means when the next ti (maybe the one after that) does come out you already have a 4k panel.

I would definitely try before you buy if at all possible with 4K - personally I love it for like racing games, etc. where I'm using a controller but just can't get on with it for FPS games, etc. where I had to go back to 1440p.

Want to know the monitor I currently have?

Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP (bought 2008)

I imagine even the Dell S2716DG will blow me away?

The UltraSharp line are good panels you might even find other monitors feel like a step down in a general sense :s

Personally I'm not blown away by the resolution differences but then I had secondary 2560x1440 displays even while gaming on 1920x1080.

Can I ask again what is your intended use? Is it mainly for gaming? Or will this be your primary monitor and while you say it will be mainly for gaming, it will be used for a bit of everything?

And how do you find gaming on your current monitor? Do you notice any Ghosting? input lag anything like that?

Gaming.

And yes. My monitor is terrible. Very bad tearing and I have to cap my frames to 60 in BF1 to stop the terrible stutter I get.

It got worse since I upgraded form my 3570k to a 1700 Ryzen. The Ryzen is just pumping too many fps and the monitor simply cant keep up.

Almost unplayable. Or at least not enjoyable. (BF1)
