Building a new SFF gaming rig for myself, budget £2300.

psn27p01prfo2.jpg

The current spec I have includes:

Shuttle SN27P2
AMD X2 (M2) FX62
4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 RAM
320GB Seagate Hard drive
BFG 7900GTX OC 512MB
NEC ND4570 DVDRW
Viewsonic VX422 19inch LCD
Logitech Elite Media Keyboard
G5 Gaming Mouse
Windows x64 Professional Edition

All except 2 of the parts are from OcUK...and comes just under budget :)

Ok, I ordered all the stuff early this morning (9:10am) so hopefully I will receive early tomorrow.

Seeing as this is my 10th Shuttle build I will be posting up an assortment of pictures, and possibly a guide on how to build a Shuttle, and some information as to what building a SFF in generally entails, along with some benchmarks (it gets asked a lot here).

Also, I didn't skimp on components as this is my 10th "anniversary edition" Shuttle and decided to go all out given my University graduation results :D Hope you all enjoy oogling the new build when it's complete..

...shall update this tomorrow *fingers crossed*

OcUK did not ship my gear on Monday (:(), but it shipped yesterday so hopefully it's coming today (soon I hope)

I also changed the DVDRW before they shipped as the NEC I wanted is now in stock, and the final specs for this beast are..

AMD X2 (M2) FX62
BFG 7900GTX OC 512MB
4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 RAM
Seagate 7200.10 320GB Barracuda*
NEC ND4750 DVDRW
Viewsonic VX422 19inch LCD
Logitech Elite Media Keyboard
G5 Gaming Mouse
Logitech Z-5500 THX® Certified 5.1 505 Watts Speakers
Windows x64 Professional Edition

* I went with the Seagate because..
a) they run cool
b) theyre reliable
c) I've tried almost all the other brands and wanted to try it out
d) Raptors aren't big enough for my music collection.. which is a shame
e) Some new benchmarks that I've seen more than impressed me

@GJUK

Like I said, I shall be posting a mega "how-to" with some Benchmarks.. I usually dabble in CS:S and BF2 but I may try some other benchmarks if anyone wants? Also, the new Conroe Shuttle is going to be crossfire so expect SN26P prices (£400+) for the case, and not only that I never buy a Shuttle until they've been out for at least 2 months in the USA because you can read the reviews and pick out the positives vs. negatives.. thats my 2 cents anyway.

Come onnnnnnnnn city link

looking forward to this :)
i've never had a sff system but have always been tempted.

would love to see how the system handles GR:AW if you have it. it's a areal system killer :D
I don't have it..yet (;))

In my experience, the Shuttle's i've owned have always been comparable to their desktop counterparts benchmark-wise, if not better. I love them simply because of their size and portability, so as you can imagine i'm expecting good things :D

Still hasn't shown up though, and the suspense is killing me..

I have the SN27P2 and the monitor but none of the internals and there's only so many pictures of the box you can take! haha

Here are some benchmarks for you guys.

Counterstrike:Source
Resolution: 1280 x 1024
All settings: High
Colour Correction: Disabled
HDR: Full (where available)
AA: 2x
AF: 8x

FPS = 215.16 :eek::D

I did use quite a lot of cable ties (;)) but the end result was a clean and manageable cabling system.

Very well thanks.

I was advised to not run x64 but I have to say its been 100% stable, and all my hardware is supported. The only mentionable hiccup was to do with the keyboard.. the media elite keyboard (Logitech) was randomly repeating letters when typing. For example, typing "games" would sometimes result in "gamesssssss" and the letter would only stop when I hit backspace.

After a bit of Googling I found that this was to do with the keyboard ITSELF, and since have changed to a Raptor K1; the problem went away!!

Very pleased with the build quality of the Shuttle, and not to mention the thing is QUICK!!! If I were you I'd use the nVIDIA driver for the LAN, purely because its easier to install along with the chipset driver as opposed to installing the LAN seperate using the Marvell drivers.

....oh, and BF2 plays like a dream on 'Ultra-High' thanks to some tweaking (for the tweak go to http://www.tweakguides.com)
