Hi,

I'm attending an event at Elvington on Thursday 15th September where a bunch of sports/performance/supercar owners will be doing top speed runs on the 2 mile runway in a safe and controlled environment.

There are some open spaces left so I thought I'd post it up here to see if anyone would like to attend. Pretty much any "performance" car (M/AMG/RS etc etc) is welcome - there are already cars like 720S, F8, 600LT etc as well as an M2, TTRS etc

There is a cost to attend as the timing gear and runway are ferociously expensive to hire - £245 and you should get at least 5 runs. You'll need to bring a helmet with you.

If you're interested, drop me a message via my trust and I'll send you an invite with the details.

I’m not sure if the insurance covers spectators being at the event. I’ll ask the question though!

From my experience of such events spectators are not permitted, only participating cars and their passengers are allowed. It’s for both safety and insurance reasons and also rules by MOD if it’s an active base.

Its not an active base hasn't been for years. A good few years ago you could go to spectate, I used to go to a few Japanese car events there.

I guess as you say insurance could be a problem nowadays. :(

Thinking about going but not sure how fast I can go on the 2 mile straight as my car only has a 162mph top speed but not sure it can brake in time if only 2 miles of straight....!

Anyone have any idea how fast you can actually go as it would cost me £1k to do this!! as I would have to drive up from London!!

The runway is 2 miles long. Assuming that there's 100m lost at least for the staging area and there's a large margin left at the end of the runway for safety you're likely to get at least 1 mile for acceleration from a standing start. You might find one of the sites like fastestlaps.com has 1-mile speeds/times for your car which might give you an idea of if you're likely to hit 162mph or not. I doubt I'd get anywhere near the 203mph top speed of my car in a mile, fastestlaps.com estimates 183mph which based on my Supercar Fest runs seems "about right".

@SupraWez I'll have at least my results if not the whole set - happy to post what I have :)

Oh might come and take photos of this :)

Might finally get to say hello too!

York! I may pop along with the Alfa to say hello

Keep us up to date on this as I am only a few minutes drive away.

Spectators are OK to come along :)

What does £195 get you?

If you book via that link they'll honour the £195 price :)

In typical fashion the Alfa has now gone into limp home mode, so I've got to get it into the garage and will have to miss this. I can't deal with the shame of turning up in the wife's kia

I hope the day goes well and that the weather holds out! I managed to eke 144.24mph out of my old nail the last time I was up there. Not bad going, really, considering its top speed was reputedly ~153mph... in 1989. Quite a long time ago, to say the least. I might have touched that if the runway was a mile longer, though! :p
