Topping VX1 - Slight issue...

Hi all,

I have a question for people who have a Topping VX1, I bought one of these recently to use with my Monitor Audion BX1 speakers via USB from my PC. When I plugged it in i noticed the left speaker was louder then the other but only at low volume....so i changed speaker cable and switched speakers around and identified it was defiantly the AMP......The issue is only when you have the amp on low...after the 8-9am mark it goes away.....

I found a workaround and that was turning down the main volume on the SPIF interface (just turning down volume on PC) to around 15% and then it was fine at low volume but you have to turn up amp more....

Anyway I requested a replacement and received it and this one is better but you still have to put PC volume down to 25% to make it perfect at low volumes....any idea on this or anyone had it before?

I did some googling and found some amps do have this issue at low volumes with good\sensitive speakers...

Thanks for any info....

It's just channel imbalance it always happens on analogue volume pots at low volume it's normal on cheaper stuff they all either have it already or will develop it.
Digital volume controls don't suffer the same issues.

Ah ok.....I'm just surprised no one else seems to have mentioned it on here or reviews....

Some of the amp designs like the O2 are designed around using middle volume partly to combat this - for some reason all but the most expensive potentiometers can have as much as 30% channel tolerance :S

A lot of people simply aren't sensitive to it - I barely notice it unless its really bad and I'm usually pretty sensitive to things being even slightly off in general - saying that though doesn't take much adjustment of the balance control for me to notice that.

Mine is like this too if it's below 9 o'clock. I just keep my Windows internal volume at about 50%, the VX1 above 9 o'clock and then change my media player's own volume as required.

I'll try my TP21 later. Can't say I've noticed it on that. It's likely present, but it's not something I remember being overly noticeable. I have certainly noticed it with the D2 though, which is a DAC/headphone amp. Both Topping.
