Torchlight 2 or Diablo 3?

I'm not sure I ever referred to you as a 'supafan' so do be quiet.

No, it wasn't the point.

I don't think the 'always on' is primarily to do with the 'DRM' I actually think it's to do with maintaining the auction house, especially due to having real money used.

I'm not overly keen on the real money auction house, but whatever.

I also, for what it's worth, reading your posts formed the opinion you don't like big companies, or rather it's a need to be 'edgy' as in with your dislike of Valve (where we have discussed it before and you admitted you might have it wrong) and you just seem to champion the underdog. Again, with the edgy thing, you seem to be positive towards EA, again, another edgy view.

Actually, a strength or weakness of Diablo 3 is that when I replay it, I don't have to pay much attention to it.

I said you "seem" how am i supposed to know every thought you have from the 1 reply I read, you're just getting upset at something now which is not what was intended.

the post was mainly pointed at the guy wanting to know what game to play, meaning to avoid D3.

I'm not an elitist, don't have the time nor energy for it :D

as for D3 being the most polished I'm gonna disagree but that's my personal view it does LOOK the most polished but once you play it you see the mess it is.

D3 has no re-playability unless, as you said have time to invest to make some real coins.

I just took your post, to show my views I didn't say you have to agree to them nor anyone else for that matter...geez.

I'm not upset about anything, this is me far from upset rofl. Plenty of people like Diablo 3 and you have to take that into account and when somebody asks a question like this thread, I don't think it's fair to bring personal bias into it.

Path of Exile is the best in the genre simply because it's so different, works really well and most importantly won't put the OP out of pocket unless he wants some vanity gear. Torchlight 2 has great gameplay and the best loot system of the 3, and the OP stated he wants good gameplay + a good loot system which T2 does better than the other two. D3 feels like a AAA title which the OP may want, although I originally stated it's not that great and has a bad loot system and awful economy. It by far has the best story and budget/quality of the 3 regardless of how much it craps on the Diablo lore.

End of the day we are here to help the OP and that's what my post did, I get that people aren't going to like one of the games but that's life aint it, you aren't the OP.

No, I do not dislike Valve at all, I just don't put them on the pedestal everyone else does because I'm not an irrational fanboy. If you can't see the bad things about well... stuff, then you need to open your eyes. I don't dislike any company I'm just not afraid to actually state what they do wrong.

Also, what kind of context is 'edgy'? Everything has it's pros and cons and I'm blind to neither, if that makes me edgy then whatever.

I'm not sure I ever referred to you as a 'supafan' so do be quiet.

No, you referred to me as some champion of the underdog whilst somebody else referred to me as some Diablo 3 fanboy. My comment was a statement of what kinda rubbish this forum brings out of people at times.

I think the best thing about any of this, is that whilst I tried quite hard to cut it down the middle to avoid any bull****, I actually got flak from both sides. Oh the joy of people.

Path of Exile gets boring fast, although is great for a free game.

Diablo 3 could have met the hype with more variety/randomisation in the areas and an over hauled looting system. Unfortunately they completely sold out and made the looting system terrible to purposely encourage you to use the Auction House and spend money on items/gold. In comfortably over 100 hours played across two characters at end game level, I think I used two items that dropped for me. The rest were AH. It wasn't bad as such by any means but it was far from amazing. Improvements aren't being made quickly enough either.

Well IMO D3 is amazing! It's a great game if you are new to the genre like I am. I had never played a game like this before and even though I bought it at launch did not touch it for ages as I just did not understand the game type.

I bought Torchlight 2 as well just to make sure I was not missing out on anything but still was left feeling rather 'meh'.

However, recently a good online friend of mine picked it up and suddenly I was consumed! Now even my wife has been bitten by the bug and we both fight over pc time after the kids are in bed so we can play!

I found the auction house to be useful only once I began Hell difficulty and suddenly was being thrashed! However my favorite thing is definitely playing this in multiplayer even if I get relegated to the htpc with my keyboard on my lap lol :)

If grinding the same small act and identifying junk 99.9% of your time sounds like fun then get D3.
oh and when you find that 0.01% item you might make £100 off the auction house.which works out at about 2p per hour.

Take a look at the respective forums to see what longterm players are saying.

i think diablo 3 is decent, not superb but its far from an awful game.

ive tried torchlight 2 and i couldnt get on with it really, i just went back to D3 but even that is now and again. i may not have given torchlight 2 much of a chance but i did feel it was the budget game (which it is). ive got my moneys worth out of diablo 3 for sure (ive not used rmah to gear or crafted a lot) and its not a game that isnt going to get updates down the road, theyre trying to improve it constantly, however its not quite there yet

Played the demo of D3 and have put many many hours into TL2.

The only thing i didnt like about TL2 was you cant respec...but you can download a program that alters your save file so you can do this...yes there are only 3 classes, but each can then in turn have 3 different specs.

Have given it a rest after playing it non stop for a month, going to go back to it soon and hammer some of the harder steam achievements :D

d3's combat is the best of the lot - it "feels" proper, bodies fly everywhere, things explode. AH is a massive negative though. TL2 is OK, i got bored quicker than i did with d3, but the big plus is you can mod the hell out of it if you want. I really didn't like PoE, combat felt worse of the 3 of them and it just bored me.

so the best advice has already been given, do the trials/demos and see which grabs you the most (go for the monk if you do d3, best class ever).

Thanks for all the input.

Still undecided, Diablo 3 just seems more polished to me, and someone said it had a great story, if this is true then it will be the one.

it is polished and the story is ok, the game revolves around doing the same story four times on increasing difficulty per run through so it may get a little tedious on the 4th run but i focused on just levelling up tbh :D

Give Path of Exile a go first mate, it's free with no obligations and if you enjoy it you're £35 better off and if you don't, like someone else said try the Torchlight 2 demo and the Diablo 3 lv13 trial.

Ive played all three and im having the most fun with path of exile, as omaeka said its free why woudnt u give it a go? Saying that its not a simple game and doesnt hold ur hand, but thats part of the fun :) Where as D3 is dumbed down to the point a chimp could play it.

Also im not sure how people can say d3 had a good story, the cinematics are good the first time, the story itself could have been done by disney, its painful to say the least. The only thing d3 got right was the physics engine and combat, the rest is unfortunately pretty terrible at this stage.

Like people have already mentioned each game has its faults, unfortunately at this stage d3 isnt in a good way..... at all, dont waste ur money on it until the expac comes out (if ur brave)

Diablo 3 has one of the worst stories I've ever played in a game, I'm not sure how anyone could think otherwise, perhaps you're all being confused by the pretty cutscenes.

Actually write the story out and realise how ******* stupid it is.

I loved the gameplay and the art style is excellent but the story, auction house, crap loot system and insane difficulty spikes and limited replayability ruined it.

He does look rather feminine.

I really liked D3, got even better when the insane repair costs were introduced. But then the noobs started whining. Then they started whining about Inferno difficulty, which they nerfed, and now you just faceroll everything.

No skill involved whatsoever now. Dunno what PvP is like but I have no intention to try, sadly.

Indeed, it's wet garbage and great CGI doesn't change that.
