Well I've tried various single player RPGs over the years, and just failed to be gripped in the same way that the online ones used to grab me. Finally I've found something that has managed it though - Torchlight! It's on offer on Steam at the moment and I can thoroughly recommend it to everyone (even though I've only played 30min so far).

The feel is highly stylised and colourful, with a very simple UI and lovely graphics. The pace is good too, throwing you straight in to the action, with quick, multiple encounters.

I know I'm a late adopter here, but I understand now what the fuss was about, this is a real gem of a game :).

Another similiar hack and slash would be Titan Quest which I highly recommend.

I tried TQ and just couldn't get into it, not sure why. I think it tried to take itself too seriously, and as contradictory as it sounds, I quite like RPGs where they're more about having fun that over the top immersion.

I've completed it 3 times now and it's great. The graphics are very pretty and the gameplay is exactly how I like it.

Saying that though, it has no depth though and is a very short game when you compare it to something like Diablo 2 or Titan Quest.

I just bought Deathspank and it's very much like Torchlight but with normal quests instead of an endless dungeon. Would recommend anyone to check it out (though you missed the daily sale).
