Guys,

I have a shameful amdission...I have never played the Diablo games (I'll get out now). I have however today come across Torchlight on Steam which has had vary positive reviews.

I'm looking to know if anyone's played it and their thought's, bearing in mind I've not played Diablo. Worth the £14.99?

PS I ahve Diablo 3 pre-ordered to see what the fuss is about. :D

I've never played Diablo either :D but torchlight was decent fun so I picked it up on the steam christmas sales. I'm sure there's a decent demo of it on steam if you want to try it. I'd probably not pay 15 quid for it though. No multiplayer :( which would be awesome in this game...

Well unluckily for you it was on offer at 50% twice and 75% in the last few months of 2009 :p

Still, its a great game, once you get Torchleech and dl some mods to deal with stuff you don't like (or just change it yourself).

Its worth it if you get it half-price. SP is superb and there are lots of great mods, including an outdoor tile-set. Finally some fans are even working on a multi-player mod :):

Although it has been on steam for as cheap as £3.50, it's great value even at its full price of £15.

There's a demo on Steam...

give it a go... not sure how long you can play it or how far you can go, as I bought the full game on pre-order :)

The demo stops once you get to a certain level I think.

It's actually the full game, if you unlock the demo you can carry on with the game from where you got to in the demo and with the character you played with.

Torchlight is good fun.

Dont expect anything deep out of it. It's a hacknslash. There's some dialogue and storyline, but they're easy to miss and after a while it just becomes about character progression. It's shallow, but very pretty, nice and smooth and hours of fun. I dont regret spending £15 on it at all, considering most new releases are £30 and you get the same amount of playtime. It has been on offer multiple times though, so you can wait for another (if ever) if you want.

I paid £15 for it when it first came out, played through it and I love it. Haven't played it for a month or so because I went crazy in the Steam Christmas sale and have loads to get through, but I will definitely get back to it.
Also Runic games are using the funds from the sales of Torchlight to make a Free to Play MMO which they said could be coming out (at the earliest) 18 months after the single player game launched. Can't wait to check that out as well.:D
