I looked in my wallet and found two parts of a tenner. Can I put some sticky tape and still use it? Or should I go into Barclays and just ask for a swap?

Either. Usually just sellotaping them back together will work fine. If you pass a bank, it might just be easier to ask for a swap.

BTW, you get that cat yet?

I saw the bugger with it's mate sunbathing on a neighbour's shed top. It was there all day, I doubt it even moved. I'm a student and...well...god what an envious lifestyle

Apparently the general consensus now is that once a cat poops in my garden, well, it doesn't want to come back. Neither would I but...mm..

The machines we use at work always tear notes.

No problem, just tape them both together and its fine, you still need to be able to read the serial code though.

Any bank will accept a broken/damaged note as long as the serial is clearly in view and you hand over more than 51% of the note to them. Paper money has a relatively small lifespan and £10 normally lasts around 18 months. Obviously the higher the value of note the less commonly it is used and the higher its lifespan. (Oh god too much discovery channel!!) But anyway the banks will be reimbursed with a fresh crisp note, its no water of their back at the end of the day.

But as others have suggested you can either tape it up and use it, most large retail outlets (Were talking Tescos and Argos etc) have a cashier system for damaged currency and will accept it or just ask for a swap at the bank next time you drop in.

Australian notes are the way to go. They are made of some form of plastic unbreakable unwashable and they never crease, looks a bit odd to start with but i like it.

So, they use money from Primary Schools? :D

Hmm, I still say get a supersoaker. It'll be great fun kitty hunting in summer :)

That's exactly what we do :D We know exactly which cat drops it's load on our garden though and where it's from which happens to be the next door neighbour so its deposits promptly get flung over the fence

They have £5 notes like that here in N.I. they seem pretty decent and don't rip but come to think of it I haven't seen one in ages.
