Torn between 2 CPU's, which one to get?

You do realise that SB release on the 9th is only the mainstream and low end stuff?

High end SB isn't being released until around the same time as AM3+, so i7/X6 is still the way to go for high-end applications.

Rubbish.

The i7-2600K thrashes every single Bloomfield processor and beats Gulftown in all but the most compute-intensive stuff. The only reason for going LGA1366 over Sandy Bridge is if you specifically need one of the few advantages it offers, such as the increased PCI-E lanes for SLI/Crossfire.

There's far too much snobbery around when it comes to the LGA1366 platform IMO. If you really need the benefits of the platform then fine, but most people don't and just perceive it as "superior" in some way.

I can see very few reasons to choose LGA1366 Bloomfield/Gulftown over LGA1155 SandyBridge right now.

I say get an i5 2500K, overclock it to 4.4ghz.

If on a tighter bugdet, then go for the Phenom II X4 955, and overclock that to 4ghz.

Just hold out to see what happens with the release of Sandybridge, you may see the price of the current corei's drop in price or get a great system on the new platform.
