Alright guys.

I have been happily using my LG34UM65 for the past few months and I do love the Ultra wide aspect ratio especially for games but not so loving the 2560x1080 resolution for everyday tasks.

Last week I came across a good deal on the rainforest for the BenQ BL3200pt so thought I'd try it out saying I have 30 days to return no questions asked.

Been mucking about with it over the weekend and although I wasn't blown away to begin with I am really starting to enjoy it.

Given that these are 2 fairly niche monitors in their own right it's highly unlikely that many of you will have experience you could pass on but if you do I'd love to hear your opinions.

The major differences are obviously the aspect ratios which for gaming is in the favour of the LG. However the BenQ has better overall resolution at 1440p and the extra height.
I also reckon that if I really want the extra FOV for some games I could just run the BenQ at 2560x1080 through the NVIDIA control panel as it's not much of a step down in overall size from the LG anyway.

The final point, and one that I know people will know more about, is the difference in panel. The LG was the first IPS I have owned and the BenQ is the first VA I have owned. TO my naked eye I believe the BenQ has better colour reproduction but this could just be me wanting to justify the purchase. Any thoughts on IPS vs VA overall?

i think va does have better colour reproduction but i think they are supposed to suffer more with input lag and and ghosting, but if your happy with it why worry. in the past i had a hyundi 24" 1200p pva panel and whilst reviews were not that good i had no problems gaming on it and the picture quality was the best from all the mointors iv owned

AFAIK, it goes like this:

IPS generally has the better image quality, colours, viewing angles but with IPS glow (which is more pronounced on these UW monitors)

VA has way better blacks/contrast ratio (which can make the screen look better i.e. colours etc. would "pop" out more especially on darker backgrounds) but with noticeably higher input lag

I think the response time/motion clarity is pretty similar for a good VA and IPS monitor.

I think that's a good fair summary.

I was all over IPS being king of everything, until I got a Rog Swift with its supposedly 'lowly' TN panel, which has genuinley surprised me overall with its colour reproduction. The viewing angles suck yes, but for gaming it's fine, and the motion clarity/ responsiveness/ gsyncyness is out of this world.

Also. I've just got a new Sony TV (50 inch w829) which is VA panel based, and it is absolutely amazing for TV watching, and PS4 gaming! It's thrown the whole thing on its head for me now. I think my next ideal PC gaming monitor would be VA based, 1440p superwide, curved (possibly), 120hz, gsync.

Yup I definitely want VA for my next monitor and that Samsung 21.9 monitor is mighty tempting but... it doesn't have free or g sync :(

That's quite a wish list :D

I certainly haven't noticed any issues whatsoever with input lag with the BenQ so no problems there - yet. I mainly play racing games and just the odd bit of Crysis and Farcry.

I got quite lucky with IPS glow on the LG to be fair but there is a noticeable difference between the 2 panels in that regard.
