Torn between 2 monitors

Your looking at a flat IPS panel vs a curved VA panel, both have gaming credentials but I'd suggest the G7 would give a slightly better gaming experience and the LG would be better if you do any kind of photo / video work as well as gaming.

I have just bought the LG, I ruled out a curved monitor as I also use my PC for amateur photo editing, the flat IPS panel will not be distorted vs a curved panel and the LG has better colour accuracy. The downsides are VA panels are much nicer to use in a dark room whereas IPS panels will always have some backlight glow (not noticeable in a lit room) and the G7 is faster at 240Hz vs the LG at 185Hz but you will need to consider whether your graphics card and preferred quality settings will be able to take advantage of the additional speed and also if you can justify the extra £150.

This is probably worth a watch, helped me make up my mind.

Thanks very much for your reply, also contemplating the

The 48-165 ghz settings for Gsync (using a 3070) caught my attention..any advice? Thank you again

Edit: for the price I can get the LG or MSI for I’d be saving over 250 quid over the Odyssey..cheers mate.

The MSI is Gsync compatible meaning AFAIK that it does not have a Gsync module which is the same as the LG so in terms of performance with your 3070 I doubt there will be any difference. The LG is overclockable out of the box to 185Hz so has that advantage over the MSI which I'm not sure has that ability. TBH I was looking for a Gigabyte M32Q but they don't seem to be in stock anywhere at a reasonable price and the Black Friday Deal on the LG plus the Hardware Unboxed endorsement swung me towards the LG.

Thanks again mate, haha yeah I’d also looked at the M32Q, mine would be 90% of gaming but not MP or competitive gaming. Looks like a toss up between the MSI and the LG, how you finding the LG for gaming? Thanks once again PieEater.

I only got mine yesterday but I'm very happy with it so far. The only negative thing I found in reviews of the monitor was that the LG panel lacks punch and vibrancy and coming from a VA panel with much better contrast ratios I was a bit concerned but I found it easy enough to to dial in the contrast, brightness and black stabiliser settings for my rooms lighting and its a non issue. Gaming is great there is no ghosting or blurring which was the real downside of my old VA monitor and the main reason for my upgrade.

I couldn't find many reviews of the MSI and sat on the fence for a while before deciding to hold out for the Gigabyte. But watching Tim's video above where he indicates now is a good time to buy a monitor given the low prices which he implied weren't going to last forever plus his comparison between the Gigabyte and LG where they each have their plusses and minuses with no real clear winner, convinced me to bite the LG bullet especially given the Black Friday deal.
