I am going to buy a Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi. I have 5k, plus my old Rover 420. I am stuck between the LX and the Zetec. Both of them have the usual features, but both of them have some individual features as well.

For instance the LX has:

Electric mirrors, Remote Locking, Heated Front Windscreen

The Zetec has:

Alloy Wheels, Front Fog lights, Air Con,

The Ghia has all of the above, but its out of my price range. Which out of the two of them would you choose?

I am leaning towards the Zetec, but was wondering if I can add some of the LX features to the Zetec, or would it cost an arm & a leg?

All suggestions welcome :)

I wouldn't want to be without remote locking. No chance of stretching to a ghia spec?

I know what you mean, I love it on my Rover. The chap at the garage, said he would get it fitted for me for an extra £75. Deffo can't do the Ghia

I'm not sure but from what car? data, Zetec should have remote locking.

Intr as 3/5dr hatch. Finesse as base with rake/adj/PAS, c/locking, immob, airbags, s/f/r/seats and RDS cd. LX as Finesse plus e/f/win, r/c/locking, e/htd/adj/mirrors. Zetec as Finesse plus alloys, r/c/locking and e/f/wins. Ghia as Zetec plus ABS, alarm and e/htd/adj/mirrors.

Have been to see 2 Zetec's today, both just have Central Locking, both cars are 2003 53 plate.

Zetec.

If you can get a remote locking kit fitted for £75 that isn't dodgy, it makes more senseto buy that, than lack alloys. After all, you may end up wanting some if you bought the LX and forking out a lot more than 75 notes.

Aircon is pretty much essential IMO too. Remote central locking less important.

This is why I am leaning towards the Zetec. I am considering buying an alarm for the car, my last alarm was a Clifford Concept 50, and had remote locking as part of the system. I think the Heated front screen sounds very nifty as well, but not sure if its more of a gimmick, then being an quality part of the car.

I got my 1.4 Zetec Climate (Petrol) for £7000 new. got like £3000 off as my cousin works at Vospers.

Did you really want diesel?

Josh

Yes, mainly cause of the better mpg. I know its only £35 for the year with Road tax as well

How much does the Diesel do MPG? Mine is supposed to do 45 MPG.

£35 for a year road tax? How come? Mines £125!

I edited above also...

Josh

EDIT- Cremeegg, i have ABS and remote locking on mine. And also PAS!

Very low emissions (106), so the dealer told me. the mpg is about 60+ ;)

The Fiesta's come with a CD player as standard, but is it possible swap out these and put in a CD MP3 player instead? As you can see its not like most normal ones

Just come back, and found a little gem with all the added extra's on that I was looking for. It cost me £5k + my Rover 420. I am well pleased. Took it out for a spin, and everything is working fine. Its a 1.4 TDCi Zetec, but the original owner has put a Sport pack on the car, so I get the Front Heated Screen, and the Air Con, Sunroof (not sure why bother, when you have air con), Elec Win/Mirrors, Alloys, ABS, Remote locking. Its a 3-door in Panther Black, on a 53 plate and has 29k on the clock. Passed an HPi check as well.

The only downside is that there is only a 30-day Warrenty, or I pay £399 for the RAC 5 Star Warrenty :(

For the cost of a £30 train ticket it would seem rather stupid to restrict your choice of £5000-£6000 in such a bizarre way.

Plus, lot less miles? Jeez it has 14k less, big deal.

Maybe not a big deal to you, but it will take me 2 years to clock 14k up.

I have not restricted myself, I have gone for what I can afford. So instead of being so negative about minor things, be happy for me, that I have found a car with all I require (apart from an MP3 Player) with low~ish miles :)

I see what you are saying in some respects, that I have set my mind on a diesel and I have tunnel vision. The full leather does looks nice, and the price and millage is the same.

I have been looking for the past 10 days, at the cars, and last night narrowed it down. I have taken some good advice off friends and family in the past and as I know what I want, I went for it.

This car will hopefully last me for some years to come. Maybe I shouldn't have made my comparision with the mpg, road tax, and insurance, from my old Rover 420Sli, but I know I will save money with this new car in the long run.

In regards to this issue with the music system. I have had a price of £117 all in from Car Electronic's. Ford said it would be £100 + Labour. This will include taking out the music system, and putting in a double fascia. Does this price sound about the standard, or is it a bit steep

[TW]Fox said:
Of course its steep, just remove the old plastic fascia yourself

Its a bit more than just that. They have to remove the sound system, and cut around the dash, so there is one big hole. then they put in a double fascia, so I can have either a double or sinlge DIN system
