Hey all, it's been a long time since I've been on these forums.

Just trying to find out if any of you guys play TORN CITY to share tips and tricks etc.

It's a Massively Multiplayer Text Based Browser game which I have really got into over the past 6 months or so. Would appeal to those who like spreadsheets like me I guess. So many layers to this game and I still have stacks more to discover. I can't believe I only found out about it last year when it's been around since 2004!

Anyway, if anyone fancies trying it I can share loads of advice to get you started so you don't have to learn the hard way like I did. Will wait and see if I get anyone interested first though.

If you are playing then get Torn Tools browser extension as this is literally a game changer, or use Torn PDA if playing on mobile phone.

Thanks,

*Can't get my sig to load properly!*
Here's a link if anyone wants to check it out https://www.torn.com/3417181

I used to play it, not sure when I started, but I don't think it was far from it's beginning. Although I haven't logged on for several years, and was fairly inactive for several years before that.

Main things I remember:
- get yourself into a better property ASAP to improve your max hapiness, as this increases your training gains (this could be just renting, as that's generally pretty cheap, or find someone to marry who you can share the property with)
- join a decent faction, they'll normally help with meds, drugs, weapons etc
- log in regularly to do your gym/crimes at a minimum

Yeah, I'm in a good faction where we just fly, make money and do chains. No warring for us which is how I like it. In many ways it reminds me of Elite Dangerous because you need to slowly build your stats and figure out ways to improve within the game.

Not played for a while. Sometimes I remember to log in and spend a ton of points from a job on stats but I'm not active.

Increase happiness using drugs before you train is about all I remember.

I started playing yesterday. Feels very slow initially. Not sure if I'm missing something but after the tutorial missions I've no others to do

You only get one mission a day. It's definitely a slow game (a marathon not a sprint), but if you're new you just need to concentrate on crimes to begin with to earn money. Stick with it though as it really opens up as you get into it - so much more to do once you unlock things.

Also go to the city and Bits N Bobs shop - buy 100 of the cheapest plushies then sell them all on the item market. Sell any items you find in from crimes in the item market too. The real goal is to get to level 15 (you level up quite quickly to begin with) and then you unlock flying which means you can trade items purchased abroad for proper money generation.

What's you ID in game and I will send you a welcome gift with some advice?

I got my Torn Taction GPT Ai agent to come up with some tips for beginners: hope this helps someone.

Alright kid, now we’re gettin’ into the meat and potatoes of how this city works. Let’s break this whole operation down into parts, real clear and proper, so you ain’t walking around like some lost tourist with your stats in your hand and your wallet in someone else’s pocket.

Happy — The Juice for Your Gym Gains
  • What It Is: Happy directly boosts your gym training effectiveness. More Happy = better gains per energy spent.
  • How to Increase It:
    • Housing: Get a better property. Start with a Shack, but aim for a Trailer or Private Island later. Factions can help you rent properties early.
    • Property Upgrades: Once you got a decent crib, spend cash (or get a landlord) to upgrade it—this boosts Happy even more.
    • Marriage: Tie the knot with someone who owns a sweet pad, and you can live there and share the Happy bonus.
    • Points: Early on, you can trade Torn Points (TP) for a short-term Happy boost. Not efficient long-term, but fine if you’re prepping for a gym binge.
  • Happy is your gym steroid. Keep it high, and your stats will grow faster. Don’t be broke and miserable—get a roof and stay Happy.

Energy — The Fuel for Everything
  • Use It Wisely:
    • Train Stats: Main use early on. Go Strength or Defense heavy unless you’re building for speed crimes.
    • Crimes: Later you’ll start using energy for certain crimes.
    • Attacks: Once you're confident, use energy to start whacking enemies for loot and respect.
  • Restore Energy:
    • Natural regen over time (5 E every 15 minutes, unless you got bonuses)
    • Xanax (but don’t abuse it early, you’ll get addicted and land in rehab)
    • Faction Perks, Boosters, and Job Bonuses can help later
  • Energy Tip: Never let your energy sit full unless you're in the hospital or jail. That’s like leaving cash on the table at a poker game.

Education — The Long Game

  • Why It Matters: Unlocks jobs, boosts crime success, gives passive stat gains, unlocks perks.
  • Tips:
    • Start immediately.
    • Stick with one course track at a time to finish faster.
    • Go for Biology, Business, or Computer Science early depending on your crime or income focus.
  • Time Management: Courses take real time. Don’t let 'em sit idle.

Money — Don’t Blow It on Toys

  • Don’t Buy:
    • Expensive weapons
    • Cars (until racing matters)
    • Drugs (unless you know what you're doing)
  • Do Buy:
    • Properties (or rent one)
    • Faction donations (if they’re worth it)
    • Cheap stocks with passive benefits (like FHG for medical)
  • Side Hustles:
    • Do your daily crimes
    • Check the city for specials
    • Do missions for starter cash

Gym Training — Your Real Day Job
  • Early Focus:
    • Strength and Defense are your bread and butter.
    • Don’t waste time on Dexterity unless going full defense build.
  • Best Gains:
    • Train with high Happy.
    • Use Energy Boosters if you’re going hard (but avoid burnout or addiction early).

Combat — Pick Your Battles
  • Don’t Fight Randoms Early: You’ll get wrecked and land in the hospital. That ain’t progress.
  • Use the Attack List Wisely: Sort by stat range or bounty if you wanna start making moves.
  • Equip Smart:
    • Stick with melee or low-tier guns early.
    • Don’t blow cash on gear until you’re winning fights consistently.

Drugs — Powerful, But Dangerous
  • Xanax = Best Gym Gains, but get addicted and you're toast for days.
  • LSD/Opium = Crime Boosters, but risky if you’re not ready for the consequences.
  • Ease into it. Get your rehab costs and cooldown management down before you start poppin’ pills like a junkie on Christmas.

You follow this structure, kid, and you won’t just survive Torn—you’ll build somethin’. Wanna go deeper into any of these? Say the word. I’ll crack open the vault.

I was playing over the past year ish, joined a platinum 2 faction but they kicked me when I went on holiday even though I filled out their so-called holiday form. Thought **** that, it's a game not a job and have not played since. :)

I'm in a really good faction - I guess it's tarnished the game for you then?

Yea, it took me a while to get what I thought was a decent faction, then after that, I realised most have those req's and it'll just be the same, so gave up lol :)
I have to be active during a once a month chain and then need to be logged on for some organized crimes, but other than that my faction are pretty chill. Good perks though so worth the extra effort during chaining.
