Has anyone found that using different torrent software effects the speeds of the downloads? If yes, what software is the best at the moment?

some will say utorrent, others will say azureus

personally i wouldn't touch azureus becuase it uses java, and is pretty hefty, uses up a lot of resources on the average joe pc

utorrent runs with about 8mb memory usage max, and next to no cpu usage, can easily play games whilst utorrent is running, wheras with azereus you'll find it hits the performance

utorrent is tiny and can run on any old pc, dont think the upload speed hampers your download, for testing purposes, i put it to 6kb/s up and can still get 1200kb/s down

around 6-15 up shouldn't slow down your web browsing too much (if you're in the uk)

also depends what isp you have, the one that hasslehoff does adverts for (can't remember what its called) has torrent capping i think, so you need to enable encryption in your torrent program

i'm on ntl, and torrents work just dandy :)

I'm using µTorrent and I only seem to get 30kbps max down load - though thats through a Speedtouch router with 1 port forwarded - is this normal or am I missing something (ISP Is F2S @6.1Mbps)

Do you get the green tick at the bottom of the uTorrent window?

i normally use bittornado but i installed utorrent on Vista and forwarded 1 port and i get full speeds depending on how many things i download.

I was getting total download 1.4mbps from few things i was downloading.

on single torrent i get around 600-800 Kb depending how many other ppl

I use utorrent. All the others are bloated and use a lot more ram. Utorrent is really simple to use and setup. I can normally get around over 100kbs if its a torrent with a few people on. I normally get about 500kbs on a good torrent. Im on 10MB telewest. Although off private torrent sites i can max my connection most the time :).

Same here, used to swear by Azureus, but i couldn't game while using it as it hogs yor CPU, Utorrent is fantastic, i always get about 230k download speeds (on 2mb), and can game at the same time to as it uses bugger all of the CPU. :)

not noticed any speed difference between clients, but I use uTorrent because of its all round greatness. Used Azureus back in the day, then BitComet, now uTorrent. WebUI on the new uTorrent is great too.

I do wonder whether it is my ISP using some form of traffic shaping? I do have encrytion enabled but that does not seem to make any differance
