Hi guys,

Actually wanting to use torrents for legit reasons, but O2, now Sky, throttle the hell out of torrent traffic to the point I get 5kbps max as opposed to 2-3mbps off non torrent traffic.

Is there anyway to bypass this as quite frankly I think it's ridiculous. I should be able to choose how I use my internet, not pay for something that is crippled because they assume everything is illegal. I've read about using different ports or forcing encrypted connections, but that doesn't seem to work

Cheers

Well I was on O2, where they openly admitted to torrent throttling. Even told me when I signed up, but given it was £5 a month and I didn't need it then, I didn't really care. Now I've moved over to Sky as they took O2 over, I still seem to be stuck on a throttled connection. I may give them a call tomorrow

How big is the file?

If it truly is a legitimate torrent then size dependent they might be able to dl it for you and then up it somewhere for you to http it down?

Which Sky broadband package do you have?

Sky Unlimited is not throttled.

Sky Connect is throttled.

If you use utorrent then do Ctrl + G and run the test

What client do you use btw?

It could also be that the torrent is slow and you are not connectable. In which case you must set up port fowarding.

I was with 02 until yesterday and there was no throttling that i was able to detect.

There is no throttling on Sky Unlimited, but there is on Sky connect. Check out your package and that will answer it all for you

you are probably still on O2's equipment in the exchange hence the throttling, migration is supposed to be complete by march 2014. I can say I have not been throttled by sky on any torrent hence the assumption about being on good old O2 equipment.

If you are using Utorrent did you update to the latest beta?

I think theres a bug with it as I did and it slowed speeds down to under 10kbps, reverted back to an earlier build and went back to normal.

This must be it. As I'm on the unlimited sky package :(

Cheers for your answers guys
