torrents on mac

This is considered one of the best atm. linky

I was using transmission which seemed ok.. nothing special, but seeing as transmission seems to be bad, (although i'm not going to pretend that i understood why), i have switched to bitrocket. First impressions are good, its got a nice download rate display thing in the dock icon which is handy.

Probably going off topic here but what differences do all these torrent downloaders make?! Do the apps make a big difference to the download rate, and are there any ways that you can maximise speeds?

Azureus is my client of choice. It performs fine on my G5 PowerMac, so long as I'm not trying to do anything crazy.

Is BitRocket UB?

The site is very basic.. doesn't really say a whole lot to be honest.

Would like some screenshots if anyone would care to upload :)

I use BitRocket, its pretty good - but thanks to moving back to my parents home for Xmas, the net configs are messed up.

Also - it was happy with the 30Gb torrent I was downloading - it kept on forcing quit on me. Its fine now that the torrent has finished.

Agreed, just for the funky 3D graphics. :D

Sadly I believe development was discontinued on it some time ago so it may be lacking some of the more recent 'features'.

yes it does seem a bit behind, it can't pick out individual files from torrents :(

It appears that the dev team behind Bitrocket has gone AWOL.. don't expect an update anytime soon.

I read that the main man might be uploading the source code for people to tinker with / take up for themselves which is probably for the best.

I tried the official Bittorrent client last night.. doesn't seem to shabby, apart from the individual file selection is missing, check it out!

What does everyone use now out of curiosity?

I was using Tranmission but i was getting banned on a lot of trackers so i switched to Bitrocket but it hasn't been great, crashes each time it's opened.

So apart from Tomato Torrent anyone got suggestions of any new ones or other good lightweight ones available.

I've only ever had BitRocket crash once, and that's when I open a torrent without the client already being open (if that makes sense). There's more current builds on the forums if you want to shove xcode on and build your own.

I tried opening it and then opening the torrent but it still crashes EVERY time.

I decided to give Xtorrent a go, but i seen they plan to charge to use it seems.

My advice to Mac users. :p

1. Forget all these crappy clients.
2. See a psychiatrist about an irrational fear of Java.
3. Use Azureus.

I might give Azureus another go, but when i first got my Macbook it felt a bit sluggish and i didn't like it.

Java is a messy buch of cack, no doubt about it (a MacBook with 512MB RAM will CRAWL!), but so long as you have the RAM then Azureus is fine.

I have used Azureus for a long time and it works fine if a little sluggish. It's best feature is being able to download parts of torrents when other programs don't.

However, it looks rubbish compared to most mac programs so I gave BitRocket a go and haven't changed back. It still lacks the download-part feature but makes up for it in all other ways. The download speed in the dock icon being a great feature.

If you need to download parts of torrents then go Azureus but if you don't go BitRocket imo.
