toshiba 1130-z24

hi all a friend has trouble with this notebook when you turn it on the toshiba screen appears with the option of f2 (setup) or f12 (search for bootable devices) when you press f12 nothing happens and whan you press f2 the screen changes to a black screen with the bios id and entering setup in the bottom left corner and that is all that happens i left it like this for 10 minuites and still nothing any ideas

i think motherboard has died but then would i have got the toshiba screen or is it the hard drive ?

i dont know can anyone help
