Hi all,

Ive got a large living room, and was wondering which would be better out of the Toshiba 42PW33P 42" RPTV and a Samsung LE32R41BD 32" LCD TV? I can get the Toshiba for £600 and the Samsung for £650.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of both?

many thanks
Paul

Helps us if you tell us what you want it for. SD, HD, XBOX 360, PC use etc etc? Both technologies have there strong and weak ponts, you need to pick what will best fill your requirements.

As a new owner of a lovely new sony 50" 3lcd rear projection unit I have to say the viewing angles are great and so far it has exceeded all my expectations.

standard DVD's look lovely as well as playing my old xbox games. Plus who wouldn't want to play their fav game or watch a movie on a large screen. Yes rptv's are big and if you have a place that you can just slot it into place then that's great as it will not impose too much on the room. It took me a few months and a lot of searching to choose this unit but after getting recommendations and seeing it live i had to go for it.

For me the rptv's offer the best value for money for the size of the unit. I paid just under the £1300 mark for my tv and sony stand. How many large screen lcd's can you get with a good quality stand for that kind of money?

I'm not saying that lcd's are bad I just think for my situation and the money i was looking at spending i wanted a quality purchase that will last me a long time. Yes I may need to change the lamp at some point adding to the expense of the unit but I am happy to do that due to this being the first proper tv I have ever owned.

There are many good quality LCD panels out there and some of them do look very nice when you see them setup correctly. The samsung you have suggested is a solid unit as a friend of mine has one and he is more than pleased with the performance of it.

yes there are some nice rptv,s esp sony I was considering one myself, viewing angles were good but as you said they were 1300 + his budget was 600/650 i wasn't impressed with the rptv,s around that price. However due to the size to big for my intended space. I ended up getting a 37 toshiba lcd which is nice.

Dude you're sig is way over sized.

If anyone is interested in the sony KD50, do NOT got to curry`s/comet to view it, you will be mega disappointed, get down to a sony shope they have them set-up correctly, it really is stunning with 720p or 1080i signals. I think sky/freeview looks abit iffy on it, dvd`s are acceptable.

Cosmetically its a stunner, and it reallly is fantastic value for money, how much would a hidef ready (native 1280*720) lcd/plasma cost in a 42" flavour? 2k?
