On the road....
I'm trying to reinstall a Toshiba C850D - 107 laptop back to Windows 7 after a failed Win 10 upgrade attempt by a novice...
I've downloaded an ISO and burned it to DVD and created a bootable USB also but I can't for the life of me get the sodding thing to boot from either, I've googled extensively and it appears I need to change the bios from secure boot mode, changing from UFEI to CSM mode in the bios, but, there is no such option available to me!

I'm assuming I'm missing something, perhaps some way to unlock an advanced part of the bios perhaps? I'm usually pretty good with such things but am getting nowhere with this one.

I've tested my media on another - non Toshiba - laptop and it reads both USB and DVD fine so I'm sure it's the Toshiba and its bios at fault here.

Google seems full of people with similar issues on these models but most seem to resolve it by disabling secure boot and selecting CSM instead of UFEI as I say, if I could find / enable this option, I'm sure I'd sort it.

Normally, I'd pull the drive and plug it in my desktop, alas though I'm in Cyprus on holiday and trying to fix the Toshiba for some OAP - and clueless - friends of who we are staying with....

Help me OC/UK Laptop forum, before I throw the damn thing in the pool!! :o :D

Thanks. :)

Can nobody help me?? I thought I'd have my frustrations sorted in minutes here!! :(

I'm still trying with it, reformatted my USB stick in various different modes all to no avail, I can select what I like in the boot menu, it boots to nothing still....

After a lengthy discussion with Toshiba, it turns out they can't assist me, it - they think - has a corrupt bios which can only be flashed from within windows, given the OS is corrupt in this machine, it's effectively bricked, it's gone in the bin this morning!

Could you not have installed a new hdd with a working os on and gone from there

We're I not on holiday in Cyprus and trying to fix it on behalf of friends who live here, yes, I'm sure I could.

The owners aren't bothered, they've sourced a new one for under 270euros, can more than afford to bin the old one - the battery is U/S and it's got a couple of missing keys - and are going with that.

I'd have brought it back with me had I room in my case! :o

Could you please check the base of laptop to confirm what model your laptop is. Should look something like Toshiba C850 model PSCxxx or PSKxxx.

I'd written it down, PSC9SE - 00T00DEN

As I say, it's in the bin now so a bit late alas.

I wasted a few days of my holiday on it, it won't boot to Windows since the upgrade to Windows
10 screwed it up, and as I say, I've no means of going further with it here in Cyprus when the kit I need is in the UK, I'd already seen that bios link, no use on a machine that's got no working OS and trying to install anything else via DVD or usb won't work due to a bios that won't do as instructed,it ignores the boot menus no matter what you try, so trying to flash the bios from usb is as unsuccessful as trying to reinstall the OS from usb or DVD for that matter as it simply - and frustratingly - won't read either.

It's where it belongs! :D

Shame it gone to bin, you would had sold it on ebay explained your issue in auction then somebody would grab for bargain and they would fixed your issue you would not fixed it. :)

You miss the small point that it was not mine to sell nor am I going to bother to bring a faulty laptop back from holiday with me, let alone say to the owners " I can't fix it so buy another one but give me this one so I can flog it on eBay!"
