I'm considering a Toshiba G20-156 Qosmio Laptop - brief specs below.

Anyone have any experience of them?

toshiba-qosmio-g20-1.jpg

Intel Pentium M 740 Processor 1.73GHz
533 MHz FSB
2 MB Cache
1024 MB RAM
120 GB Hard Drive
Double Layer DVD ReWriter MultiDrive
17" Widescreen Display
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005
128MB GeForce Go 6600 dedicated graphics

TIA !

It's a bit average in the GFX games dept tbh which is putting me off - I don't play a lot but I'd like the ability to play occasionally with decent graphics and frame rate..

The other one I'm looking at is the Advent 7092, specs below..

Intel Pentium M 750 Processor 1.86GHz
533 MHz FSB
2 MB Cache
2048 MB RAM
100 GB Hard Drive
Double Layer DVD ReWriter MultiDrive
17" Widescreen Display
Microsoft Windows Media Centre Edition
256 MB GeForceGo 6800 dedicated graphics

quoted for truth

i think the qosmio has RAID (not sure about advent)

i would choose the qosmio hands down (prefer toshiba as a brand)

Yep - has 2 x 60gb hard disks which can operate in Raid 0 or Raid 1..

Unfortunately I have to choose from PCworld - through a scheme at work so choice is a bit limited but I'm slowly talking myself into the Tosh :)

Thanks for the input ;)

Wahey Computers @ Home.

Basically, you'll go right off the advent as son as you see it in the flesh, the spec is brilliant but the build quality is horrific on that model. A good alternative we've just recieved is the....

Advent 7093

# Intel Core Duo T2300 Processor 1.67GHz
# 667 MHz FSB
# 2 MB Cache
# 1 GB RAM
# 80 GB Hard Drive
# DVD ReWriter Drive
# 15.4" Widescreen Display
# Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
# 128MB nVidia GeForce dedicated graphics (its a Go7400)

Not quite as good graphically, but a very decent laptop at a good pricepoint.

One thing to check mate, depending what company granted your computers @ home, varies whether you get a kind of cover in the price. Check in your big leaflet it will sometimes say "£320 worth of cover" or something to affect, which is basically 3 years of PC Performance for free. If this isn't there, i would recommend taking th cover, purely because in 13 months time you dnot wanna be paying for something that doesnt work!

Nice one mate - many thanks for the tips :) I'll take a look at that one as well..

I take it you work for PC world then ? Do you know of anything coming in soon which would make it worth hanging on for a bit ?
Basically I've got £1,300 to spend and could stick a bit more on if it's worth it.
Essentially looking for something with plenty of poke, nice looks and screen. Weight and battery life etc is not really a problem as it'll be plugged in most of the time and used as a desktop replacement for me to use in the lounge on the sofa whilst the kids are on the main PC ;)

Cheers again..!
