Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L50 here and its not powering up.

The owner said it just sat in its box in a cupboard for 5 years and now it wont turn on

It would give a Power LED and a Charge LED but press the power on button and nothing not even a fan noise or anything.

Opened it up and checked the power button and cable with a multimeter and seems ok

No CMOS battery as apparently the laptops battery works as a cmos battery as well.

Tried removing all hardware still nothing

Left the battery on charge all day, the next day it was only reading 3 volts.

Ordered a new battery and inserted it and the power on button lit up I thought It was sorted but no, that was all it did so had to remove the battery to turn it off.

Put the battery back in and now nothing not even a power or charge indicator when the mains is connected

Removed battery and still not even a power or charge indicator. Checked battery voltage and 14 volt

Mains charger giving 19 volt

Sound like a dead board?

Thanks

Check the ram is securely in, I had a similar job once just pressed the ram in and all fixed.

I assume you have the power lead plugged into laptop with and without battery when trying to Boot it?

Thanks yea tried it with and without battery in and with and without power supply

Oh also tried holding the power button for a minute

Tried it with the ram out and HDD out and well everything out DVD drive, wifi card etc

Might just have to do the last resort and stick the mobo in the oven to try and reflow the solder joints... Unless theres any more ideas?

Thanks

All I can suggest is a new power cord but you said you've tested voltages so it doesn't really assume that would make a difference.

Your 100% sure there's no cmos battery?

I suppose the next stage is too strip it down to barebones, just MB and power.

This can be a fairly tricky operation if you haven't done it before, plenty of scope to break parts, lose parts and other etc.

Yea already broke it down to the barebones. Its actually one of the easiest laptops to strip that I have worked with. Few screws on the base. Pop base off, few screws on the mobo, disconnect a few cables and thats the board out!

Yea was going to try another psu but my voltmeter is showing 19v from it where it connects to the mobo

Yea no cmos battery the laptops battery does it for it guessing thats why thr battery is screwed in do it cant be accidentally removed

Thanks
