I`m thinking about getting one of these for my son. Any thoughts?

Intel Core i3 - 2.13Ghz
4Gb DDR 3 1066Mhz RAM
320Gb 5400 Hard drive
15.6 Inch Display
ATI Mobility Radeon 5145 Graphics.

Saw one in a shop. Windows 7 Experience Index:
CPU 6.0
RAM 6.2
Windows Aero Graphics 5.1
3D Gaming Graphics 6.3
HDD 5.9

not the best, but for that budget is a good buy. don`t forget when you buy it, a few weeks later something else will turn up lol.

good for your son.

For an extra £50 you could get a Sony Vaio E series with a 2.26ghz i3 and a 512mb ati 5470 which is probably a nice upgrade from that toshiba.

Ordered myself a Toshiba Satellite Pro L650-1CG online for £570 as I wanted a machine that could handle games respectably. Specs are similar except for the graphics, which is a Mobility Radeon 5650 which will run new games pretty well. It also has a slightly faster i3 in it. Full specs are:

Intel Core i3 350 - 2.26GHz
2GB DDR 3 1066Mhz RAM
320GB 5400 Hard drive
15.6 Inch Display
ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 Graphics (1GB)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.

Only downside is the RAM although I think 2GB should suffice.

Yeah, that's a decent price for the specification you gave.

An ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5145 should be able to play some games at a fairly reasonable FPS.

The 4GB DDR3 RAM/Core i3 combination is certainly fine. With a clock speed of 2.13GHz, it ought to be an i3-330M, which is a mid-range Intel CPU right now.

Only thing I'd say about it is that it's fairly large. If your son is going to be moving it around a lot, something more compact might be appropriate.
