Hey guys
Anyone seen one of these DVD players in action or own one? If so what are your views on it?
I was thinking of getting one since it has HDMI on the back and would be probably output a better picture to my projector than a standard s-video etc..

actually i think i might not get one :) Just read some review that says toshiba don't upgrade the firmware on it so divx/xvid films in future are unlikely to work!

I have one and it works quite well, but sometimes the pause between layer changes can be quite long. For the money though it's a great player and doesn't suffer the lipsync problems of the denon 1920. If you want a cheap upscaling dvd player at the moment there's not a lot of choice.

I have seen toshiba firmaware updates so not sure where your info comes from.

Ah ok,
it was from one of the user reviews for the product. The guy said that he had contacted toshiba and they had no plans to support any firware upgrades for it! Anyway i've read a few other problems with it - primarily bad divx playback which is a pity, the best sub £100 dvd with HDMI i have read about so far is the philips dvp5900

what about the samsung dvd player agoose cataloogs sell for £99, it too has hdmi aswell

Aye the Samsung HD850 I think plays Divx and has HDMI connection etc and is under £100

Have watched a good number of DivX and Xvid recording on it without too much bother, but as it's the first such player i have owned I probably can't compare. For £60 it's hard to beat though and with HD-DVD coming out I simply picked it up as a stopgap. Mine has actually now been replaced with a dedicated HTPC so it will become a bedroom player shortly.

ps. it did receieve the what home cinema best buy award and 5 stars for what it is worth.

I had one, not impressed, stupid blue light at the front, froze in every film for 5 seconds usually twice, common problem with them and hdmi output is worse than the component output.
