Hey guys,

Looking to build a new desktop mainly for music production; so CPU is the main focus here and secondly RAM. Secondary function would be some gaming, but really not focussed on spending half of my budget on the graphic card or playing games at super-ultra-mega settings.

I need everything, bar peripherals such as a mouse. So that'd be all hardware plus windows.

Ideally, looking for an SSD to install the OS on and music programs(around 20-30gigs) and then a large secondary drive for other files. Be nice to get a large, good-quality monitor with a high resolution. Should point out that an internal soundcard isn't necessary as external sound cards and interfaces will be handling that.

Budget can stretch to around £900 but that's only if absolutely necessary. Really appreciate any help here as I've been laptop user for the past 6~ years and have fallen out of touch with desktop builds.

Thanks.

• You can run a 3 month trial of Windows8.
• You can use the Haswell CPU's built-in GFX core to do simple tasks, add a GFX card later which the PSU will easily allow (its made by Seasonic so is quality)

Did you really want a nice monitor included within that budget?

  • Sandybridge i7 (2 generations behind the 4700k) Still a great chip.
  • 7870 LE GPU for gaming (very good card for the money)
  • Just within budget

Id personally go with stulids but if you wont be able to save up for a GPU afterwards (as you would with stulids rig) this is a great option.
