Hi lads i suppose many here have played this game in the past and i was wondering what is the modern version of this.

I would still play the game with some of the mods out there but after i build my new PC last week and put the damaged disk in the new DVD drive it promtly blew up and took the drive with it!

So im after the same sort of thing but more modern but have no idea whats about.

Cheers guys.

You mean Total Annihilation?

Supreme Commander and its expansion Forged Alliance are the "spiritual sequel", same developer in charge too (Chris Taylor). Be warned that SC is tough on hardware, especially in 8,000 unit skirmishes on 81km maps with several AI players. ;)

There is a freeware clone available.

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance is the closest to a modern reboot though.

cheers lads, yes my spelling isnt the best sorry.

I think my pc should cope, unless the CD drive explodes again!

Can i get it on steam?

As mentioned Supreme Commander. Very much in the same vein, although not as futuristic I seem to recall (I only played the first few missions, I'll have to dig it out if I haven't already sold it! [For me to play I mean!])

Supreme Commander Gold Edition is a few quid on Amazon (contains both the original and Forged Alliance expansion, two DVD-9 discs).

Personally, I'd start on Sup Com:Forged Alliance (it improved Sup Com considerably IMO) and get into some of the mods for it. Great game, even against the AI (with the Sorian AI mod). Not sure how active multiplayer still is though.

Generally a few hundred players, sometimes up to 1000 depending on time of day (and tournaments etc). You don't really need thousands for an RTS like this though (most matches are 1v1 or 2v2).

You can get Total Annihilation on gog.com for only $6 if you're looking for a replacement for your disc.

There's also a few of us who play Supreme Commander 2 online around here, granted it's not as good as it's predecessors but online it's still decent enough and easier to get a game going.

I tend to find Supcom 2 more fun then it's predecessor anyway to be brutally honest.

That depends on your level of involvement. I agree that SC1 could have made it easier to control certain items (upgrades for example) and had a better warning if you were going to resource-stall but those are UI considerations.

Still, you could play a no-rush 2x resources match and ban certain units to make things less challenging to manage.
