Total newb can't get internet to work!

Just had my internet browsing system put together, but I can't get the net to work on it. When I click on explorer it loads an 'explorer wizard' window. My brother seems to think that I shouldn't be getting that and it should run straight away. Could it be that this computer I'm using with the same connection has Windows XP and the other one uses 2000? What am I missing here?

How are you connecting this to the internet? Dial up?

No, through cable.

It's the same connection I'm using for both computers. Is there some that I have to setup prior to getting online access on the other computer or is it just a case of clicking on explorer as I've been told?

Virgin Media, if it's any help. :confused:

With just a cable modem? You can't just switch the modem between the two machines without jumping through a load of hoops.

I didn't think there would be too much jumping. I've got a router here and I can set it up from my room, but I figured it won't work that way unless I've already got both machines working through the same connection.

You need to buy a cable router like http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-052-LS to work correctly with VM, get one of those and it will be spot on, using one here

Where is the cable coming from that’s attached to the main VM black box? Into your PC or direct into the Router?
