Hi,
I'm looking to totally upgrade my home built desktop due to some recent purchases that can't be run to their full spec on my old board. Budget around the £250 - £300 mark unless you feel it would be future proof to up this a little more..
Currently:
Motherboard:MSI MS-6712 KT4AV AGP8x
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz
CDRw's DVDrw's and all the other bits!!!
Reason for change 1:
Memory - 2048 MB RAM. I purchased (2 x Gskill F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ 1GBDDR PC4000) but found i can only run them at 333 due to double sides or something...
Reason for change 2:
Want to update my GFX card from the ATI Radeon 9600XT 256Mb currently installed and have been advised to upgrade to the Nvidea 7600GT?? i think but someone mentioned PCI-E?? and i don't have it... only AGP i think.
So.... after all that... i'd like to buy a new motherboard that requires not much more than a plug 'n' play set up, that all the above can work on.
Also... when buying a new motherdoard... do i instantly fall into the trap of needing to replace the heat-sinc and fan and what about the little chip thingy it sits on.... that was quite exspensive .. do i need to replace that too???
Thanx in advance for any advice...
oooh.... anyone know of a good one stop shop for buying all this stuff??
Gavin
