Total War Eras

I liked Shogun, although it gets a tad too easy when you get Geishas...then again, if the AI gets them first you're in trouble.
I've never played the game so I'm having difficulty understanding why high-class prostitutes are such a good weapon? :p

Really? Theyre almost unstoppable assassins in Shogun (well, they'll keep trying till they get a chance to kill the target). You can take out the rival clan leaders and thus reduce the clans to leaderless militias, or kill generals to make armies less effective. Only way to counter a Geisha is another Geisha or a Ninja that has racked up kills already.

They're absolutely top-notch assassins. ;) Take down those annoyingly clever generals with them and armies are easier to defeat on the field of battle. The little fmv's you get when you tell them to kill someone are pretty 'entertaining' too. :D

Shogun & Medieval are fantastic games, it's a shame Rome didn't do the Total War series justice imho. I still play the first two to this day.

how so? imho Rome is the best; 3d graphics, huge expansive quasi-world(europe), amazing ai, nice battle intros etc, etc ok i'll agree that it didn't do some of the things the previous games did, but rome is ,imho, the best total war game, and i know Medieval 2 will be shedloads better,

what do you actually get in eras, and for how much?

I think you get all TW games + all expansions in Eras. Pretty sweet!

My issue with Rome is that, and I'm afraid I disagree with you here, that I feel the AI is appalling. It can't cope with the new campaign map very well and does some very poor things on the battlefield in comparision with the AI from Shogun/Medieval. Seige AI pathfinding is nothing short of a joke! Rome's battles also feel too fast and arcadey to me too.

The graphics are lovely though, and I do like some of the things they did like the battle speeches. :) hopefully Medieval 2 will build on this but also bring back more of the features from the older games too. Now they have the 3D engine set up hopefully we'll see more evolutions, more features, more everything!

the box it comes in must be HUGE! i that 5 disks?, now i know where all the oil
production goes to :)

lol the box is big its bigger than my graphic card box :D

rome gets my vote due to the unrestrited stratagy map. Altho I can be a big bugy at times. For example an enemy can not pass around a certain distance of you troops with out fighting. Therefore allowing you to set a line of forts to defend a board. However this does not stop them fleeing after a battle past this line.
