There is quite a few of them out now. I have tried to get into the medieval ones but for some reason couldnt get to grips with it. Should i try on of the medieval ones again or go for Shogun 2?

Ive seen a few Shogun 2 vids and it looks a bit quicker to learn how to play.

Im the kind of person who should really like the games, i grew up loving powermonger, populous and the rest.

So which is the easiest to start playing? Currently downloading the Shogun 2 demo.

I own MTW2 and have played the shogun demo just from playing the demo I would say that shogun would easier to get into. I found tutorial great and the interface/camera ten times better its much easier to position & attack with your troops.

I found the campaign a bit dry in MTW2 compared to shogun demo just did not have enough detail and became bit repetitive the AI is joke. One thing that is great about MTW2 is that it can be heavily modded improves the AI new campaign maps & units etc.

If you do get Total War: Shogun 2 check amazon i think its around £15 mark

Shogun 2 would probably be the "easiest" to play. All the games beforehand kind of lead up to its design, and they are also extremely worth playing. I like Rome and Empire, I want to play more Napoleon when I've the time, but I've spent a lot of time in Shogun2. I should probably try continuing Medieval too.

I haven't been with the franchise since the start, but I know that all of the games are great.

Except Shogun 1 might be worth giving a miss due to the controls.

Shogun is the easy to learn, but probably one of the hardest to master! I'm a follower of Total War since Shogun 1 & I cannot for the life of me be any good at Shogun 2, at all! Even though I'm about average-good at the others (online)...

I found Rome the easiest, most enjoyable and most re-playable of all so far. Both in SP and MP.
(Though I have recently fallen completely addicted to Empire once more).

MTW2 is probably the best for mods though, if you're that way inclined. The Third Age was amazing, I've never played the vanilla game but poured hours and hours into this.

Ive been playing the Shogun 2 demo and have a question about making troops.

During the tutorial i take a provance with the decent horses, what are my options when recruting different types of the better horse units?

I can only seem to make one type since i can only have 2 building in the provance (not inclusing the castle). So with the stables i can only have one type of dojo, i.e. archery, so i can only make the bow horse men? If i wanted to make sword horse men i would have to burn down the archety dojo and build the sword training place.

Does that make sense?

Yes, commonly (esp early game) each castle should be focussed on what it will produce. As you build bigger castles you can add more types of dojo etc.

You will have to addapt your play/battle stategy based on what's available to you. It's good in a way as it means you try out different ways to battle from your usual comfort zone - helping you pick up tactics and knowledge for future use :)
