Totally puzzled: Desktop icons are missing

Yet when I browse to my Desktop in Explorer, all the icons and files on my desktop are there.

I cannot work out why they have disappeared from the desktop or how I can get them back.

Anyone care to shed some light on the subject ?

Right click on the desktop and go to view, show desktop icons.

Have you checked this? Make sure when you right click on the desktop and go to view that 'show desktop icons' is checked.

hahah oh how dumb do I feel now. Never actually seen that option before.
