This is totally bizarre - There are 4 internal Sata ports controlled by the Southbridge chip - and 2 more that are controlled by an onboard Marvell controller.
When I tried to plug my hard drives (4) into the main ports (4) the bios fails to recognise my optical drives (2) which are connected to Marvell's connectors (2). Devices are only recognised in the bios if they're connected to Marvell's ports if the other devices connected to the Southbridge chip are all set to RAID, which is not what I want to do.
This means I can't install windows. Hence being that I only wanted to RAID 2 of the hard drives (RAID 0, 2x Raptors), I installed them into the Marvell sockets, created the array - and then successfully installed windows.
Now, when I try to plug in my optical drives (2) and storage drives (2 x WD 500GB AAKS) into the 4 slots controlled by the Southbridge controller, the option to boot from my previously made RAID array disappears from the bios and is replaced by the 4 drives. There's no way I can get the RAID array back as an option to boot which means after posting - the machine stops - and asks that I insert something that's bootable and restart etc. This is driving me nuts. I have tried updating the bios to the latest version - but nothing seems to stop this problem.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
