Had a moment today, managed to graze drivers side down the side of brick wall while reversing onto my drive in what can only be described as a moment of sheer driving prowess.

Been ages since I've done anything like this - are we looking at a touch up or a full respray?

Depends on you I suppose, it will never look that great with just a touch up, if you're someone who likes to keep their car as perfect as they can, then it will bug the hell out of you as you'll be able to see it. A smart repair may be better, but it won't be 100%

If you're not that bothered and just want something that will look decent from a distance, then just get a smart repair

I'd be getting a proper respray job on it though

Get quotes for both a smart repair and a proper bodyshop respray - I'd be surprised if there's a significant difference in cost, and as good as smart repairs can be, that looks a bit too significant for a good smart repair.

Thanks all, took another look and can confirm it is ever so slightly dented too, so looks like its a bodyshop job.

Had the car 3 weeks.

Awesome.

Most body shops will want to paint the full door and blend the wing and rear door/rear quarter as well. Painting a panel on its own can stand out even with the best paint matching technology, hence the need to blend in the surrounding panels too.

This

I had someone scratch the door to my old car and went for a smart repair from ChipsAway
Went to a body shop which quoted me £1500, BMW quoted me £850 - both for a respray + blend
ChipsAway was the cheapest at £240. The respray was just the door only in esoteril blue, but..it just didn't match the rest of the car and could tell a mile away that the door had been resprayed without blending
My OCD got the better of me and I sold the car on 5 months later... (also partly driven by the fact I found a 440i deal i couldn't resist)
