Hey all,

Has anyone used (successfully of course) touch up paint?

My car has some annoying stone chips and some scratches. Some of the scratches I can polish out, but others are full down to metal. I was wondering if touch up paints to fill in and then polish in would work? If so, any recommendations?

I have a black MY60 S5 Sportback if that helps with the colour.

I've had good results using a cocktail stick and touch up paint with an exact match for stone chips. If you fill the chip properly it can disappear.

Scratches, however, are a different story. I can make the scratch less noticeable by touching it up, and stopping rust, but I can still see them.

Yep! I've used official touch up paint on my old toyota, and Chipex for my current BMW. Latter often do sales around end of the month.

Try this guy he is a real pro at such things has his own YT channel with loads of handy tips plus his own website where he sells the paint kits matches to your car! Might save you a fortune ;)

I’ve filled stone chips a couple if times using a mix of your colour paint and clear coat applied with a cocktail stick. Then using a denibber to flatten them out followed by a polish.

I’ve never done scratches this way but I assume it would work the same. I’ve seen it done for a rash by applying a paint clear coat mix quite liberally then sanding it back but I’ve not been brave to try that.

Thanks for all replies.

I am not expecting a 13 year old car to suddenly look factory, but the sliver scratches on black are letting the side down too much.

I've used Chipex on a few cars. Like all of these DIY solutions it not perfect but I've had some really good results with stone chips

I’ve used touch up paint kits a few times over the years with varying degrees of success.

What I did learn along the way is.. less is more. You almost want the brush dry after shaking the bottle and getting some on to it.

Very gentle and gradual application is crucial. Too much and it’s a mess. Like treacle on the paintwork (only same colour of treacle :D)

Touch up paint king were always decent enough for kits and paint.

Just my 2 cents.
