I'm thinking of getting a touch screen for a second/third monitor. I currently have a Samsung 32" HD Tv @ 1360x768 and iiyama 24" E240HDSD @ 1900x1080.

I like the functionality of the touchscreen as I don't have to keep moving my mouse across lots of screens, but I don't seem to find any 24" wide screen under £500.

Any suggestions?

but if you were using touch screen lcd, you have to sit really close with your lcd. imagine, 24" with touch screen. I still prefer using mouse.

Why would you liker touchscreen on a monitor?

The surface get dirty and there is plenty of space to put the buttons on the side of the bezel instead.

I'm currently doing a proof of concept for a new till system my company is going to introduce to one of our customers and part of that involves testing the various touchscreens available. We've got a variety of models dotted about the place at the moment and I'd say they are all very disappointing.

The "best" is a £700 19" model by Elo. However, it only runs 1280*1024 and using the touch is very annoying after the gimmic wears off.

They really aren't suited to windows navigation - you're fingers are just too fat, even when using a pathetic res like these ones are. At 800*600 on the 19" you can more or less click what you want to first time but everything is so huge it's completely unusable for anything other than mickey mouse functions.

They are useful for specialized software that is designed to be navigated by touch screen but for general computing I wouldn't go near one.

Also, if you wanted a 24" one at 1920*1200 you would probably have to pay megabucks.

Just get a decent screen and bump the acceleration/speed on your mouse up a bit - mine is on max speed, med acceleration and I can get from one side of my 24" 1920*1200 to the other side of my 30" 2560*1600 screen with one swift flick of the mouse...
